Born June 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Jake and Cordelia Thomas Stamey. She was a life-long resident of Habersham County where she was a homemaker and was a member of Old Nacoochee Baptist Church. Mrs. Whisnant was preceded in death by her first husband, Cordell Hamilton, and her second husband, Robert Whisnant, a son, Eddie Lee Hamilton, and grandson, Lancer Nix. Survivors include daughters, Doris Ritchie, Clarkesville, Velma Franklin, Cornelia, Darlene Weaver, Patricia Nix and Cletta Fredericks, all of Danielsville, and Rita Freeman, Greenville, S.C.; sons, Odell Hamilton, Clarkesville and Terry Hamilton, Demorest; brother, Bill Stamey, Toccoa; sisters, Alice Ward, Cornelia, and Mary Yarnelle, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 28, at Amy’s Creek Baptist Church in Clarkesville with the Revs. Austin Kelley and J.T. Tyson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville, was in charge of arrangements.
