Clark information requested by reader The Times of Gainesville, January 31, 1980 - Sybil McRay, Hall County Genealogist Mrs. Cliff Moore of Memphis, TN writes: "I am tracing my family and would like some information about Charles W. Clark who served in the Civil War." Mrs. Moore has in her possession a letter written by her grandfather, Charles W. Clark. She believes it may have been mailed from Dawsonville, Ga. Mary Ann Clark, wife of Charles W., answered the letter and addressed it to Savannah, Ga., Captain West's Co., 1st Regt. Georgia State Troops. The letter was written to her grandmother, Mary Ann Clark, and when she answered this letter she turned the envelope wrong side out and addressed it back to her husband, Charles W. Clark. "I am 75 years of age and am anxious to leave all the information I can get on my ancestors to my grandchildren." If indeed Charles W. and Mary Ann Clark were residents of Dawson County, Ga., all early records on this family probably may be found in either Lumpkin, Forsyth, or Cherokee counties. Dawson County was created in 1857 from Lumpkin and Gilmer Counties. The Clarks may have resided in Gilmer County in the part that was cut off into Dawson.
