XVII, Page 7, Column 4 THE MOONSHINE CONSPIRATORS. -------------------- Four Men on Trial at Gainesville For Connection with the Recent Killing. The recent killing of moonshiners in Hall county by the party of revenue raiders has, as was expected, resulted in the arrest of several parties for conspiracy. United States Commissioner Caldwell, of Gainesville, is now trying four men against whom warrants have been issued. The men are Hiram Grant, Thomas Grant, Oregon Smith and little Anderson Grant. It is claimed that three of the party were the men who attacked the boy at the wagon and took the horse away from him, and that they were among those who spent the afternoon and part of the night in getting up guns and concentrating the forces of the moonshiners. The two Praters who were connected with the affair escaped and have not been captured. They were Andrew Prater and Aaron Prater. Josiah Prater, as will be remembered, was killed in the fight. Big Anderson Grant, who led the the moonshiners, was killed by a terrible wound. The man who killed him was evidently right at him. Both barrels of a shotgun were fired into where the breastbone and collarbone joined. The charge passed through the body, cutting everything before it, and making a wound into which a man could almost run his hand. Prater was shot in four places---twice in the breast, once in the back and once in the hip. Mr. H. H. Perry is defending the prisoners, and Mr. W. F. Findley has been appointed to conduct the examination for the government. The preliminary trial will be concluded in two or three days. Additional Comments: Josiah, Andrew, and Aaron PRATER were sons of Josiah and Mary Jane (SHOOPMAN) PRATER of Hall county, Georgia.
