Stephenson, Jr. July 1999 Gainesville, Ga. March 27, 1913 Beloved Citizen Crosses the Border Mr. Enoch Edwards died on the 11th instant at the home of his son Mr. W. N. Edwards, of the Fork district at the age of 85 years, after an illness of two Week's duration. The remains were taken to Chestatee Baptist church and there interred by the side of his wife who had preceeded him to the grave by five years to await his coming to a home not built with hands, for they were Christians on earth and had laid up treasures in heaven to inherit when their work here had been completed. About 65 years ago they were married and became one family in union, and they likewise entered upon a spiritual union, both joining the church and were baptised together. And God gave them a life crowned with good deeds and a home blessed with seven happy children, then, at a golden age, took them to himself. Mr. Edwards was born in Spartanburg, S. C., in 1828, and moved to Cobb county, Georgia, in 1856, and when the war broke out he joined Phillip's Legions, Longstreet's corps, and did gallant service up to within a month of the surrender of Lee, when he was captured and taken a prisoner and was not released until one month after the surrender. Mr. Edwards moved to Hall county 16 years ago, and here his last peaceful years were spent, before going to his Father, who has given him four score and five years in which to teach others how to live. The funeral and burial services were conducted by Revs. T. L. Robinson and J. W. White. He was survived by five daughters, Mrs. G. D. Thompson, Canton, Tex.; Mrs. Jane Pendley, Marble Hill; Mrs. B. F. Thompson, Fork district; Mrs. Kate Sosebee, Fork district and Alice Harben, Gainesville; and two sons, W. N. Edwards of Fork district and E. B. Edwards of Marietta.
