Aug. 22nd, 1892 – The many friends of Mr. G.G. Potter, in Taylor and surrounding counties will be pained to learn of his death, which sad event occurred at his late residence near Atlanta on Tuesday eve Aug. 9th. Mr. Potter had reached the age of 74 and had spent over fifty years of that time as a devoted follower of his Lord and Master Jesus Christ, he had been a strict member of the Methodist church and Sunday School Superintendent for fifty years, and at the time of his death as the loved and trusted leader of a live and flourishing Sunday School. It can truly be said of this devout man that the world was better for his having lived in it. Mr. Potter died in the full possession of his faculties, surrounded by his wife, who has gone hand and hand with him for fifty years. Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to them he left a legacy more precious than gold, the example of a well spent life. To his bereaved ones who are sorely afflicted we would commend his example and point them to the Christ that he loved so well and followed so faithfully, and who sustained him so fully in the hour of death. Rev. T.T. Christian of the Advocate conducted the funeral exercises at the late residence. His remains were interred at Gainesville Rev. J.M. Roberts concluded the funeral services. May the God Mr. Potter so faithfully served smooth the rough places in life for his bereaved companion left behind is the prayer of P.G.
