Gainesville, Ga., Feb 21.-An interesting marriage, and one that tinges of romance, occurred yesterday afternoon when Mr. Byron Mitchell and Miss Mary John Dunlap were joined in the holy bonds of wedlock by Rev. LA Simpson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. The marriage was a complete surprise to the friends of the couple, the affair was so clevely managed that they only knew of it when the matter gained publicity after the ceremony was performed at 4? 1? o'clock yesterday afternoon. It has been known that the young man was paying attention to the young lady for many months, but recently his visits to her home ceased, and many wondered if the engagement had been declared off. This appears to have been a mere pretense to dissipate the minds of the families and cause them to think an estrangement had taken place between them. This was just just (sic) the opposite of the real situation it seems. By mutual agreement the young couple met at the home of Mr. J M Oliver, the minister preceding them just a few minutes. Mrs. Oliver was completely surprised at first, but she soon saw what was up and of course couldn't object, so the ceremony was quietly performed. The groom is the oldest son of Mayor R. D. Mitchell and is a successful and energetic young business man, highly esteemed by a host of friends. The bride is the daughter of Col. S C Dunlap, ex-United States marshal of the Northern district of Georgia, and one of Georgia's most prominent citizens. The young couple have many friends not only in Gainesville but throughout the state, who heartily congratulate them on their marriage.
