Battle, Cullen Battle, Seth N. Boughton and Absalom E. Reeves, Trustees of the Powelton Academy of the one part, and Solomon Barefield of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Board Trustees for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to them in hand paid, at and before the sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted bargained and sold and do by these presents grant bargain and sell unto the said Solomon Barefield, his heirs and assigns all that tract or parcel situate lying and being in the Town of Powelton and County aforesaid bounded as follows beginning at a hickory corner at the S.W. corner of the lot thence North 42 West 5 chains to a stake; thence north 48 E. 4 chains and fifty links to another stake, except the space now open to the Academy between said line and the walling which encloses the academy estimated at twenty feet wide, thence from said Stake corner south 42 East 4 chains and fifty links to a stake; thence south 40 West 4 chains and seventy eight links to the beginning hickory corner by estimation about two acres more or less. Together with all & singular the houses and improvements, rights, profits, privileges and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging to the said lot of land. To Have and to Hold the said lot or parcel of land, with all and singular the rights members and appurtenances thereof whatsoever to the same belonging to the only proper use, benefit and behoof of him the said Solomon Barefield his heirs executors administrators and assigns in fee simple, and the said Trustees their heirs executors administrators and successors in office the said bargained premises unto the said Solomon Barefield his heirs executors administrators and assigns, against the said board Trustees their executors & administrators, and all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant and forever defend by virtue of these presents. In witness whereof, the said Reuben T. Battle, Cullen Battle, Seth N. Boughton & Absalom E.
