Source: Deed Book, Hancock County, Georgia, p. 358. The deed states that Joel was from Greene County. The indenture reads as follows: Sept. 23, 1791 State of Georgia This indenture made the twenty third day of September in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and ninety one, and in the fifteenth year of the Independence of the United States of America. Between Henry Chandler and Nancy his wife of the County of Columbia and State aforesaid of the one part, and JOEL DICKINSON of the County of Greene and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that said HENRY CANDLER and NANCY his 2d wife for and in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds pence to them in hand paid by the said JOEL DICKINSON at and before the sealing and do livery of these present the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged, have granted, Bargained, Sold, Aliened, Released, and confirmed, and by these present as grant, Bargain, Sell, Alien, Release and confirm unto the said JOEL DICKINSON and to his heirs, & assigns all that tract of land containing two hundred and eighty Seven & half acres land, situate lying & being in the County of Greene on the waters of Shoulderbone Creek and bounded Northwardly on Colege land and on the other side by VICANT and MAJOR LONG'S land and unknown land. Originally granted to THOMAS JONES by his Honor EDWARD TELFAIR Esquire Govenor of the said State and from said Jones to Richard Call, and from the Sheriff of Washington County to HENRY CANDLER and NANCY his wife to JOEL DICKINSON. Together with all singular the rights number and appurtenances that soever to the said tract of land being- belonging or in any wise appurtaining -- and the numercious reminders, rents issues and profits thereof and every part thereof. To have and to hold the said tract of land, and all and singular the premises as aforesaid unto the said JOEL DICKINSON for the only proper and absolute benefit and behalf of him the said JOEL DICKINSON and his heirs and assigns forever. And the said HENRY CANDLER and NANCY the said tract of land and premises with the appenternances therebe belonging unto the said JOEL DICKINSON and to his heirs against them the said HENRY CANDLER and NANCY his wife and their heirs and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will forever warrant and defenda by these present.
