Gilbert of the County of Hancock and State of Georgia of the one part, and Frederick Barefield of the County of Hancock and State of Georgia of the other part, witnesseth, that the said John G. Gilbert for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred Dollars to him in hand paid, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed, and doth by these presents grants, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Frederick Barefield, to him his heirs and assigns all that tract of parcel of land, situate, lying and being in the County & State aforesaid, butting & bounding as follows, beginning at a water[?] Oak near the Branch Lucases Corner, thence running S74E 29 Ch. & 50 L. to a Red Oak, thence N79E 9 ch. to Red Oak, thence N72E 18 Ch. to pine & thence S??E 26 ch. 50 links to Hickory, S42W 11 ch. to a Walnut Sprout, then down the meanderings of the Creek to the juction [sic] of Lucas's Branch, thence up said said Branch to the beginning, containing two hundred & Eight acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold said tract or parcel of land, unto him the said Frederick Barefield to his heirs and assigns together with all and singular the rights, members and appurtenances thereof, to the same in any manner belonging, to his own proper use, benefit and behoof forever, as a good indefeasible estate in fee simple. And the said John G. Gilbert for himself his heirs executors and administrators, the said bargained premises unto the said Frederick Barefield to him his heirs and assigns, will warrant and forever defend the right and title thereof against themselves, and against the claim of all other person whatever. In witness whereof, the said John G. Gilbert hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year above written. J. G. Gilbert (L. S.) Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of John W. Brown Thomas Lundy, J. P. Georgia Hancock County Martha P. Gilbert wife of the within named John G. Gilbert did this day appear before me and being privately and separate and apart from her said husband examined by me did declare that she freely voluntarily and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person whatever renounced, released and forever relinquished unto the said Frederick Barefield his heirs and assigns all her interest and estate and also all her right and claim of dower of in and to all and singular the premises mentioned in the within deed. In witness whereof the said Martha P. Gilbert hath set her hand and seal to these presents this twentieth day of April 1824. Martha P.
