Smith of the County of Hancock and state of Georgia of the one part, and Frederick Barefield of the County of Hancock and state of Georgia of the other part, Witnesseth, that the said John E. Smith, for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and seventy five dollars to him in hand paid, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed, and doth by these presents grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Frederick Barefield, to him his heirs and assigns, all that tract or parcel of land, situate, lying and being in the County and state aforesaid, near Mt. Zion Academy beginning at a stake near the Academy lot, then running North 4 degrees West three chains & thirty one links, to a stake; thence S56W three chains & thirty links to a stake; thence S34E three chs. & thirty links to a stake; thence to the beginning corner containing one acre, being the lot and house in which the said Smith purchased from J. G. Gilbert, known as the Plunket lot, adjoining said Gilbert Thomas & the academy lot. To have and to hold said tract or parcel of land unto him the said Frederick Barefield to him his heirs and assigns, together with all and singular the rights, members and appurtenances thereof, to the same in and manner belonging, to his own proper use, benefit and behoof forever, as a good indefeasible estate in fee simple. And the said John E. Smith for his heirs, executors and administrators the said bargained premises unto the said Frederick Barefield to him his heirs and assigns, will warrant and forever defend the right and title thereof against themselves, and against the claim of all other persons whatever.
