She had been in unusually good health for a person of her age and her death has cast a gloom over Sparta, as she was greatly beloved by every citizen. Mrs. Harley was the widow of the late Judge James A. Harley, who died several years ago. She was the youngest daughter of the late Bishop George F. Pierce, and had been a life-long resident of Sparta and Hancock county. She was a graduate of Wesleyan College in the early days after its establishment and had always been a prominent and outstanding member of the Methodist denomination. She is survived by two daughters Misses Paula and Ella Harley; two sons, G.F. Harley and James A. Harley, of Columbus; one brother, Colonel Lovick Pierce, of Sparta; one sister, Mrs. Claude Pierce Middlebrooks, of Sparta. The last two named are past 80 years of age and are the only children of Bishop and Mrs. George F. Pierce now living. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock and interment will be in the Sparta cemetery.
