Hancock County. Obituary of Judge Thomas L. Reese Judge Thos. L. Reese The announcement that death had claimed this fine old Southern gentleman brought genuine sorrow to many on last Tuesday morning. Judge Reese was one of the oldest and most highly esteemed citizens of Sparta and closed his eyes in eternal sleep in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Thus closed the earthly career of one of our county’s best; one of our most useful; and one of the most universally liked and most highly esteemed citizens. He was a native of Morgan county, but had so long been identified with the best interests of Hancock, she claimed him as her own. Judge Reese had served this county as Ordinary for a number of years, his services in this capacity being so signally proficient and so satisfactory to the public that he had to opposition for years. Never had the county a more devoted or more highly appreciated public servant than in Ordinary Reese. In a quiet, unassuming manner he went about serving his fellowman, as he saw fit. He was a member of the Methodist Church, never demonstrative, but always companionable., a man among men— the like of whom there are few. He will be sorely missed as a citizen, a public servant, a friend and a neighbor. His place will be difficult to fill. A devoted companion, two splendid sons, Mr. Tom Reese of Washington, Ga.; Dr. Ed Reese. of Sparta; a womanly daughter, Miss Sara Reese, of Washington, D. C. besides relatives in Morgan county; a niece, Mrs. Frank Inman, of Atlanta survive. He was a brother of the late Judge Seaborn Reese. The Ishmaelite extends sincere sympathy and mourns the passing of another esteemed friend and cultured gentleman of the Old South. The funeral and internment was in the city cemetery on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. The Sparta (Ga.) Ishmaelite. Issue of Thursday, January 5, 1933
