JOHN VINSON, in the 78th or 79th year of his age, of typhoid pneumonia. This venerable man of God has been an exemplary member of the Methodist Church for upwards of 40 years. About the year 1806 he obtained religion, and joined the M.E. Church at Smyrna, and has been a regular and con- sistent member from that time till his death. He soon obtained license to exhort, and subsequently, to preach, which he did as long as he had strength suf- ficient. His talents were not of the first order, and his literary attainments limited, but his constancy, zeal, and energy have been surpassed by few. While many semmed to faint by the way, his course was on- ward and upward, and in his last illness he bore his afflictions with all the patience, ...rkness, and hu- mility of a Christian, and when asked by his .. what his prospects were beyond the grave, his an- swer was "I am going to glory." A few minutes before his departure he as him again if he saw his way clear, he bowed his head as if to say "all is right." He has left an aged and afflicted wife, three sons, and three daughters to morne his loss; but he rests from his labors, and his works no doubt will follow him.
