Mr. John Vinson, died in Hancock Co., Ga., July 23rd, aged about 75 years, of consumption. She had been afflicted upwards of 30 years. She was born in Maryland, and removed to Ga., when quite a child. She was early bereft of her parents and was the only one left of her family. She was married in 1796 and in '98, she joined the M.E. Church at Smyrna, em- braced religion in 1804, and ever after lived a consis- tent and acceptable member. She was always punc- tual to attend her meetings-particularly her class- meetings, until old age came on and her health became too much impaired to allow it. She had for several years learned to suffer the will of God, and when the solemn summons came, she was found ready and wait- ing. During her sickness she often spoke of her child- ren an grand children and expressed a great concern about their happiness. When asked what her prospects were beyond the grave, she said, "my dependence is in God." During his sickness she prayed much and prayed for every body. She suffered a great deal, but bore it all with christian resignation. She would often say "it would be best for me to die and be at rest." ******************************************************** Copyright 2002 by Laura Vinson Northrop.
