NOTE: When David Dickson died in 1885, he willed his estate to Amanda, his mulatto daughter. After the will was upheld in Probate Court, the white Dickson family appealed this decision to the Superior Court of Hancock County and the Georgia Supreme Court. The Georgia Supreme Court upheld the ruling of the Probate Court of Hancock Co. and Amanda America Dickson became the wealthiest African American woman in Georgia at that time.
