Written: June 7, 1798 Recorded: November 5, 1798 Will of Mark Stroud In the Name of God, Amen. I, Mark Stroud of Hancock County and State of Georgia, being weak in body and in a low state of health, but am in my perfect senses and sound in mind, do constitute, make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, disavowing and revoking all others made heretofore by me. And first of all recommend my soul to God and my body to the dust from whence it came hoping my executors hereafter named will have me buried in a decent manner. Item, I lend unto my beloved wife Martha Stroud all my estate, both within doors and without that I am perfect with at this time without any exception whatever during her natural life or widowhood. Also my will and desire is that my wife shall raise and support and bring up my children upon the incomes of my estate which I have lent unto her, without bringing any charge against them for the same. Item, My will and desire is after the death of my beloved wife Martha Stroud, or in case of her intermarrying, when either of these should happen, then my will and desire is that all my estate, which I have heretofore lent unto my wife Martha Stroud, should be taken care of by my executors hereafter named and equally divided between my eight children (viz.) William, Levi, Eli, Mary, Sarah, Albion, Orion, and Tillatha Stroud if they be all then living or to as many of them as should be living. Item, I do appoint Jonathan Melton and Isaac Crow jointly executors to this my last will and testament and it is my will and desire they should transact the business which I have left for them to do this twenty seventh day of June 1798.
