Take left on Waddell St., go about 1/4 mile, Forest Lawn Memorial Park will be on the left. RAYMOND KERMIT CHAMBERS, SEP 11, 1927 OCT 13, 1942 S1/C US NAVY, WORLD WAR II. Raymond Kermit Chambers S1/C, lost his life at sea serving as a U S Navy Armed Guard Gunner's Mate aboard the SS Susana Oct 13, 1942. The SS Susana was torpedoed and sunk in the North Atlantic, taking the life of Herman Chambers and most of the crew S1/C Chambers was awarded the Purple Heart Posthumously. Recorders note - Raymond Kermit Chambers was the first service man from Haralson County, Georgia to be killed in action during World War II. The VFW Post in Bremen, his hometown, was named in his honor.
