On this 9 day of September, 1892, personally appeared before me, G.M. Davenport, an ordinary, within and for a court of record in the county and state aforesaid, Mrs. M. M. Rowell, aged 61 years, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension provided by act of Congress approved July 28, 1892, granting pensions to widows of Indian Wars. That she is the widow of Dudley Rowell, who enlisted under the name of Dudley Rowell in April 1838 in Captain John Witcher's Company, Colonel Turk's Regiment in the Indian War known as the Cherokee Removal in Paulding County, Georgia and was honorably discharged at Cedar Town, Georgia in June 1838. That the said Dudley Rowell died at his home in Haralson County, Georgia on the 4th day of November 1877, that she was married under the name of M. M. Anthony to her said husband, by W. M. Williams, J.P. at her fathers' (Lewis Anthony) house;That there was no legal barrier to such marriage; that niether she nor her husband had been previously married. That she has heretofore made no application for pension for Indian Wars, that she hereby appoints A.W. Ballew of Rome, Georgia her lawful attorney to prosecute this claim. Her address is Haralson County, Georgia at the Buchanan, Georgia Post office. John Witcher's Co., Turk's Regt., Georgia Volunteers, Personally came before me, an ordinary in and for the aforesaid County and State, Joshua Rowell, a citizen of Haralson County, aged 77 years, whose postal address is Buchanan, Georgia, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit and who, being duly sworn, declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: That Dudley Rowell, who was a soldier in the Cherokee Indian War died at his home in Haralson County, Georgia on the 4th day of November 1877. That he (Joshua Rowell) closed said Dudley Rowell's eyes after his death. That he was present when the applicant M.M. Rowell and Dudley Rowell were married. That niether Dudley nor M.M. Rowell had ever previously married and that M.M. Rowell has never married since the death of said soldier. That he was personally acquainted with Dudley Rowell during his whole life and that he has known M.M. Rowell for 51 years. That Wyatt N. Williams as Justice of the Peace in said county of Haralson was the person who pronounced the ceremony when Dudley Rowell was married to M.M. Anthony (maiden name) in Haralson County, Ga. He further declares that he has no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. John Witcher's Co., Turk's Regt., Georgia Volunteers, Personally came before me, an ordinary in and for the aforesaid County and State, Elizabeth Nix, a citizen of Haralson County, aged 57 years, whose postal address is Felton, Georgia, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit and who, being duly sworn, declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: That she knew Dudley Rowell so far back as she can remember until his death. That siad Dudley Rowell died at his home in Haralson Co., Ga and that she saw him die on the 4th Day of November 1877, that she witnessed the marriage of Dudley Rowell to M.M. Anthony now M.M. Rowell. That niether Dudley nor M.M. Rowell had ever previously married and that M.M. Rowell has never married since the death of said soldier, and that she has known M.M. Rowell for 50 years. In the matter of claim for Martha Matilda Rowell, residing at Buchanan, GA, personally appeared before me, Joe Kelley, ordinary, within and for the county and state aforesaid, Mrs. M. M. Rowell, aged 63 years who being duly sworn declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: That her husband Dudley Rowell never during his lifetime received any warrant and that she has never received any land warrant as his widow. She also states further that her husband Dudley Rowell never rendered any service in the army or navy other than the one claimed for. Also that her siad husband never made any application for pension. She also states that she nor her said husband Dudley Rowell had been previously married before their marriage. And I, Martha M. Rowell, state that the above and foregoing testimony was all written in my presence and from my oral statements and that the same statements were made on the 8th Day of September 1894 at Buchanan at the office of E.S. Griffith and to E.S. Griffith the person doing this writing and that in making said statements was not aided, or prompted and did not use any printed or written statements prepared or dictated by any other person and not attatched as an exhibit to my testimony. In the matter of claim for Martha Matilda Rowell, residing at Buchanan, GA, personally appeared before me, Joe Kelley, ordinary, within and for the county and state aforesaid, George Goggans, aged 77 years, and Austin Ayers, aged 72 years, who being duly sworn declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: George Goggans says that he was well aquainted with Dudley Rowell, husband of Martha and that siad Dudley Rowell enlisted in the Cherokee Removal in April 1838 about the first and was discharged at Cedar Town, GA sometime during the month of June 1838. Austin Ayers says that he also was well aquainted with Dudley Rowell and that he enlisted in the Cherokee Removal at Cedar Town in April 1838 and that said Dudley Rowell was discharged honorably at Cedar Town, GA during the month of June 1838. That he enlisted with said Dudley Rowell served with him and was discharged with him. Both witnesses say they know Martha Rowell, know her to be the identical person she represented herself to be and know that she has not remarried since the death of Dudley Rowell. Goggans and Ayers both state that the above and foregoing testimony was all written in our presence and from our oral statements and that the same statements were made on the 8th Day of September 1894 at Buchanan at the office of E.S. Griffith and to E.S. Griffith the person doing this writing and that in making said statements was not aided, or prompted and did not use any printed or written statements prepared or dictated by any other person and not attatched as an exhibit to our testimony. In the matter of claim for Martha Matilda Rowell, residing at Buchanan, GA, personally appeared before me, Joe Kelley, ordinary, within and for the county and state aforesaid, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Nix, aged 57 years who being duly sworn declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: That she saw Dudley Rowell and Martha Rowell married in the spring of 1850, says that she was present at the wedding and that Wyatt Williams J.P. preformed the ceremony and that they were married at Lewis Anthony's residence, the father of Martha Rowell. She further testifies that she attended the funeral of Dudley Rowell and that Martha M. Rowell has not remarried since her husbands death. I state that the above and foregoing testimony was all written in my presence and from my oral statements and that the same statements were made on the 8th Day of September 1894 at Buchanan at the office of E.S. Griffith and to E.S. Griffith the person doing this writing and that in making said statements was not aided, or prompted and did not use any printed or written statements prepared or dictated by any other person and not attatched as an exhibit to my testimony. In the matter of claim for Martha Matilda Rowell, residing at Buchanan, GA, personally appeared before me, a Clerk of Superior Court, within and for the county and state aforesaid, John Rowell, aged 46 years, and A. H. Wood, aged 48 years, who being duly sworn declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: John Rowell says that he attended the funeral of Dudley Rowell, husband of Martha Matilda Rowell, that the said Dudley Rowell died on the 4th of November, 1877 and that he knows Martha Matilda Rowell is the widow of Dudley Rowell and knows she has not remairried. A.H. Wood says that he attended the funeral of Dudley Rowell and he died on Nov. 4, 1877 on Monday morning and knows Martha Rowell as the identical widow of Dudley Rowell and that she has not remarried. We state that the above and foregoing testimony was all written in our presence and from our oral statements and that the same statements were made on the 27th Day of September 1894 at Buchanan at the office of E.S. Griffith and to E.S. Griffith the person doing this writing and that in making said statements was not aided, or prompted and did not use any printed or written statements prepared or dictated by any other person and not attatched as an exhibit to our testimony. We testify from memory only. Signed John Rowell A. H. Wood _________________________________________ Indian War Service Pension Declaration of widow State of Georgia, County of Haralson. On this 25 day of November, 1904, personally appeared before me, an ordinary, within and for the county and state aforesaid, Mrs. M. M. Rowell, wo being by me first duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: That she is the widow of Dudley Rowell, who served under the name of Dudley Rowell as a private in the Company, commanded by Captain Witcher in the war with the (Cherokee) indians in the year 1838, that he was enrolled at Cedar Town, Georgia on or about Spring of 1838, that she was married under the name of M. M. Anthony to her said husband, by Wyatt Williams, on or about the 7th day of April 1850 at Paulding County, Georgia and lived with her husband until the day of his death, to wit: the 4th day of November 1877 when her said husband died at Haralson County, Georgia. That there was no legal barrier to such marriage; that niether she nor her husband had been previously married. That her said husband, being duly enlisted, as aforesaid, actually served thirty days with the Army or Navy of the United States, in the war as above stated, which service was as follows: To collect the indians in and around Cedar Town and surrounding country and was honorably discharged at Cedar Town, Georgia in fall of 1838. That she has heretofore made application for pension for Indian Wars, that since the death of her husband she has resided at the following places to wit: Haralson County, Georgia, that she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension-roll of the United States under provision of the act of July 27, 1892, as amended June 27, 1902. That she hereby appoints Nathan Bickford of Washington, D.C. her lawful attorney to prosecute this claim. Her post office address is Buchanan, Georgia. Attest: W.R.
