(Give State, County and Post Office.) Harriet A Nicholson, Bremen, Haralson Co, Ga 2.How long and since when have you been a resident of this State? 63 years since 1838. 3.When and where were you born? Jan 7th 1838 Troup Co Ga 4.When and where was your husband born-- state his full name, and when you and he married? He was born in Oct 12 1822, NC James Nicholson know from family record 5 When and where, and in what Company and Regiment did your husband enlist or serve during the war between the States? 1862 Meriwether Co Ga Co B 26th Ga Battalion - Ga Vols 6. How long did your husband serve in said Company and Regiment? about 3 years 7.When and where did your husband's Company and Regiment surrender and was discharged? At Columbus Ga April 1865 8.Was your husband present at the time and place when his Company and Regiment surrendered? He was 9.If not with his command at surrender, state clearly and specifically where he was, when he left command, for what cause, and by what authority? present 10. When and where did your husband die? He died Jan 19th, 1893 Haralson Co Ga 11. Which of the following grounds do you base your application for Pension, viz: First, Age and Poverty, Second, Infirmity and Poverty, or Third, Blindness and Poverty? age & infirmity & poverty 12. If upon the first ground, state how long you have been in such condition that you cannot earn your support. If upon the second, give a full and complete history of the infirmity and its extent. If upon the third, state whether you are totally blind and when and where you lost your sight? I am 63 years old. Rheumatism & asthma have totally disabled me 13. What has been your occupation since your husband's death? Have not followed any occupation 14. How much can you ear gross, by your own exertion or labor? Nothing 15. What property, real or personal, or income do you have or possess, and its gross value? Nothing 16. What property, real or personal, did you possess at the death of husband or he left your, and of the year 1899-1900, and what disposition, if any, by sale or gift, have you made of the same? Nothing 17. In what counties did you reside in 1899 and 1900, and what property did you return for taxation? Haralson Returning no property. 18. How have you been supported since the death of husband, especially for 1899 and 1900? I have been supported by my sons. 19. How much did your support cost for each of those years, and how much did you contribute by your own labor or income? $60 I contributed nothing 20. What was your employment during 1899 and 1900--- How much did you receive for each year? No Employment 21. Have you a family? If so, who composes such family? Give their means of support. Have they any lands or other property? no family I have no property 22. Have you ever made an application for pension before? no 23. A. Nicholson. I have known Mrs. Nicholson 14 years I know of my own knowledge that she is the widow of James Nicholson who died in 1893, Know that she has never married (since the death of her husband) She has no means of support whatever. She owns no property & is supported by her grown sons She suffers of Rheumatism and Asthma to the extent that she is totally disabled to earn a support of any Calling whatever. I have lived near Mrs. H. A. Nicholson continuously for 14 years and am familiar with her physical and financial condition. I have no interest in recovery of pension for this applicant. W. T. Are you acquainted with the applicant, Mrs Harriett A Nicholson, if so, how long have you known her? ever since 1860 3. Where does she reside, and how long and since when has she been a resident of this State? At Breman Ga. And has resided in Ga since I have known her. 4. When and where was she born? (blank) 5. Were you acquainted with her husband? I was 6. Where did he reside in 1861? Meriwether County. 7. When and to whom was he married? (blank) 8. When and where was he born? (blank) 9. How long have you known him? since 1860 10 When and where did James Nicholson enlist in the war between the States, and in what Company and Regiment did he enlist and how do you know this? In July 1862. Meriwether Co, Co B 26th Ga Bat. I was present. 11. Were you a member of the same Company and Regiment? I was 12. How long did he perform regular military duty? about 3 years 13. When and where was his Company and Regiment surrendered and discharged from service? In Columbus Ga. 14. Were you with the command when it surrendered? I was 15 . Was James Nicholson, the husband of applicant present? He was 16. If not present, where was he? (blank) 17. When and where did he leave his Command? For what cause? By whose authority he left? How do you know all of this? (State fully and clearly.) I was with the command & I know wereof I speak. 18. When and where did James Nicholson die? (blank) 19. Where did he reside at his death and how long had he been a resident of Georgia at his death? Had lived in Ga since I knew him 20. Do you of your own knowledge know that applicant is the lawful widow of James Nicholson? My information is that she is 21. Has she remained unmarried since her soldier husband's death, and is now his widow? That is my information 22. What property, effects or income has the applicant, if any, and how do you know this of your own knowledge? (blank) 23. What property, effects or income did the applicant possess in 1899 and 1800 and what disposition did she make of it? (blank) 24. Has applicant conveyed any property in the last two years or given any away, if so what was it and to whom? (blank) 25. What is the applicant's physical condition and her chances and ability to earn a support? I am judging only from her age and from that would say she is unable to earn a support. 26. Is applicant able to earn a support at labor of any sort, if not why? She is old & I am sure she is unable to work for a living 27. How was she supported for 1899 and 1900? (blank) 28. how much did the applicant contribute to her support for the last two years? (blank) 29. Give a full and complete statement of the applicant's physical condition? (blank) 30. T. Edwards and M. H Stephens both known to me to be reputable physicians of said county, who, being severally sworn, say on oath that they have examined carefully Mrs Harriett A Nicholson, applicant for a Pension underAct of 1900, and after such personal examination say that her physical condition is this Chronic Rheumatism of an inflammatory nature. Also asthma of long standing which totally disables her and we have no interest in said pension if allowed. J. T. Edwards M.D. M. H. Haralson County --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ORDINARY'S CERTIFICATE State of Georgia Haralson County I, Thos A Hutcheson Ordinary in and for said county, hereby certify that the applicant H. A. Nicholson resides in said county, and has been a bona fide resident of this state since (blank) day of (blank) 1885. (written between lines "satisfied from pages submitted her statement is correct") and that witnesses W. T. Harper, Dr J. T. Edwards, Dr M. H. Stephens are of trustworthy character, and that their statements are entitled to full faith and credit. I do further certify that before answering the foregoing questions, the applicant and said witnesses took the oath herein prescribed, and the and that the full text of the affidavits was read to the applicant and witness before same was signed and subscribed. I further certify that the tax digests of Haralson County show that applicant returned for taxation in her own name in 1899, (blank) dollars worth of property, and in 1900, (blank) dollars worth of property. B. Strong, Ordinary in and for said County, came R. F. Caudle, who being duly sworn says that he was present at the marriage of James Nicholson and Harriette Caudle which marriage took place Dec 17th 1856, and he knows of his own knowledge of the legal marriage of said parties. He further swears that the said Harriette Nicholson is the widow of the said James Nicholson, deceased. R. F.
