The fire is supposed to have caught from the stove flue, as it originated in the kitchen. The hotel was a two-story frame structure. As the flames had already made great headway before it was discovered those who answered the alarm saw that it was useless to attempt to save the house, and devoted their attention to saving as much of the contents as possible and the neighboring buildings.
