WILLS who was a private in Company “H” commanded by Captain RICHARD E. KENNON and attached to the 17th Regiment Georgia Volunteers commanded by Col. HENRY J.(?) BENNING, That her said husband JAMES Q.WILLS departed this life at the ? Georgia Hospital, Richmond, Va. on the 17th day of November A.D. 1861 while in the service of the Confederate States. That she the said ELIZA ANN WILLS widow and relict of the said JAMES Q.WILLS dec’d is entitled to demand and receive from the government of the Confederate States all ? due and owing to the said JAMES Q. NELSON is a lawful acting Justice of the Peace in and for said State and County and his actings and doings are to be accredited as were sworn under my hand and seal and official signature. State of Georgia ) County of Harris) Know all men by these presents that I of the county and state aforesaid for divers good causes and consideration and hereunto have made ordained and appoint test etc by these do make ordain and appoint of said state and R.E. KENNON of said county my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name etc for my own purposes use and benefit to ask demand sue for recover and receive from the lawful officers of the Confederate Government amount that said government is indebted to my husband JAMES Q. WILLS for his services as a soldier he having died on the 17th of November 1861 and use and take to lawful ways and means in my name or otherwise and to conformed and agree for the sum and sequillenaces (?) sufficient receipt and discharge for the same for me and in my name to make seal and deliver and to do all other lawful things and accounts whatsoever concerning promises as fully and in every respect as I myself, might or could do were I personally present at the doing thereof in witness ---------------. This day of October 1863, before the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace in and for said county, personally appeared ELIZA ANN WILLS, and made oath in due form of law, that she is the widow of JAMES Q. WILLS, deceased, late a private of Captain BARDENS’s(?) Company H, 17th Regiment Georgia Volunteers, and that the said deceased died leaving her his widow and that she the said ELIZA ANN WILLS is therefore entitled to all arrears of pay, etc., that may be found due to said deceased from the Confederate States. And at the same time also appeared JOHN T.(?) GOODMAN , who is well known to me, and whom I hereby certify to be a person of credibility and veracity, and made oath as aforesaid, that he knew the said deceased and knows the said ELIZA ANN WILLS his widow and that the facts as sworn to by her the said ELIZA ANN WILLS are true and that he is disinterested therein.
