We could not learn the particulars as to how the difficulty arose, but it seems that a man named Matheny and another man named Calhoun who were at work on the track laying of the Columbus and Rome Railroad, had a difficulty about the work. They afterward went into town and both got under the influence of whiskey, when the quarrel was renewed. During the difficulty, Matheny drew his knife and cut Calhoun's throat. When the train left Hamilton yesterday morning, Calhoun was still alive, but it was thought he could not live long. Several rumors in the city yesterday said that he was dead, but they were not reliable. Matheny has fled the country. A detachment of men from Harris county were in the city yesterday looking for him, but met with no success. He is badly wanted at Hamilton.
