Will Book C Pages 89-90 Written: March 29, 1884 William Copeland Will – 29 March 1884 Last Will and Testament of William Copeland State of Georgia Harris County In the name of God, Amen I William Copeland of the County of Harris and State of Georgia being of sound and disposing mind and memory and being desirous to settle my world affairs while I have strength so to do, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all wills by me at any time heretofore made. 1st I will my executor to pay my just debts. 2nd. I will my wife Ann Copeland my entire landed estate in Harris County, Georgia two thousand three hundred (2300) acres more or less during her natural life to use as she may see fit and proper and the said Ann Copeland shall be entitled to all the rents and benefits arising from said land. At the death of my wife Ann Copeland I then will to my daughter-in-law Anna Copeland and her children my homestead at Valley Plains together with the following described lands to wit: Lot number two hundred and eighteen (218) on which my dwelling house sits containing two hundred two and one half (202 ½) acres more or less, also Lot number Two Hundred and fifteen (215) containing two hundred and two and one half (202 ½) acres more or less. Also the East half of Lot number Two Hundred and fourteen (214) containing one hune one and one fourth (101 ¼) acres more or less, also twenty (20) acres more or less in the South East corner of Lot number Two hundred and fifty one (251) _______ five hundred and twenty six and one fourth (526 ¼) acres more or less, all the above described land are in the Twenty Second (22) district of originally Muscogee now Harris County. 3rd. I will that my Ann Copeland shall retain or hold or hold possession of the above described lands during her life, at her death the said land to go unto the possession of Anna Copeland and her children and the said Anna Copeland shall have no right to sell or dispose of any part of said land in anyway and the Anna Copeland is hereby authorized to use said premises for the use of herself and her children. At her death of the said Anna Copeland, then said lands are to go into the possession of said Anna’s children that are then living. The object of the above is to secure to said Anna Copeland and her children a home for herself and her children that no one is authorized to sell. 4th. I will to the children of my daughter Julia F. Johnston to wit: Marshall S. Johnston and Mary C. Johnston – the following described lands Lot number one hundred and forty five (145) in the Twenty first District of originally Muscogee now Harris County, also Lot number one hundred and forty six (146) in the same district except (8) acres sold off the Southwest corner of said Lot, the said above described land to be equally divided between Marshall S. Johnstron and Mary C. Johnston. I will that my wife Ann Copeland retain or hold possession of the above described lands during natural life and her death said children to have possession of said lands. 5th. I will the remainder of lands in Harris County ______ Lot number one hundred and seventy six (176) in the 21st district of originally Muscogee now Harris County, also Lot number one hundred and eighty one (181), also Lot number one hundred and eighty ____, also lot number one hundred and seventy nine (179) also Lot number one hundred and eighty (180) also part of lot number one hundred and forty five (145), also part of Lot number one hundred and forty six (146); these lands are in the twenty second (22nd) District originally Muscogee now Harris County making one Thousand three hundred and twenty (1320) acres more or less. I will that the above described lands be divided into three equal share or parcels giving one share to my son A. F. Copeland, one share to my Grand Daughter Mary L. Copeland and one share to my Grand Daughter Willie B. Copland, I will that my wife Ann Copeland shall retain or hold possession of the above described lands during her natural life and at her death to go into the possession of the parties above mentioned. 6th. I have Three Thousand Seven hundred Dollars ($3700) more or less interest in the Dry Goods business with John Gamble in Hamilton, Harris County, Ga at the time of said investment my son A. F. Copeland was a minor yet made a partner in said business with said J. W. Gamble since the said A. F. Copeland becomes of age, I will said investment with all the interest and profits of the said investment to the said A. F. Copeland. 7th. I will to my wife Ann Copeland the whole amount of money, notes and accounts, rents &c, also to the said Ann my household and kitchen furniture, stove and fire arms included also one carriage, one buggy, one two horse wagon, two ox wagons, whole amount of live stock, horses, mules, cattle and hogs and whole amount of plantation tools and that the said Ann Copeland is hereby authorized to dispose of any article or thing mentioned in this article as she pleases. 8th. I will to Wm C. Johnston five dollars. 9th. I will to my son Wm B. Copeland five dollars. 10th. I leave my wife Ann Copeland and my son A. F. Copeland Executors of my estate and will. In Witness whereof I the said William Copeland to this my will consisting of the foregoing five (5) pages of paper have set my hand and seal this the 29th day of March 1884. William Copeland (L.S.) Signed Sealed published and declared by the above named William Copeland as his last Will and Testament in presence of us who at his request in presence of each other have subscribed our names witnesses thereto.
