Copeland, of said state and county being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament. Item One. I will my executors as soon as possible after my death to pay my just debts. Item Two. I give to my beloved wife Maggie Copeland, the sum of Fifty-five thousand and no 00/100 ($55,000.00) dollars absolutely in fee simple. If at the time of my death, I have not the above amount in cash, then my wife is authorized to select from my other assets, stocks or bonds or promissory notes secured by real estate an amount which together with the cash on hand, will make the sum of Fifty five thousand dollars Such stock and bonds as she may select hereunder are to be estimated at their par value. Should she select notes secured by real estate, then the real estate to follow the notes to secure which it was given; and my executors are hereby empowered to make all necessary transfers and conveyances to carry the above into effect. I also give to my said wife absolutely, in fee simple, an undivided one half interest in my home place where I now live in the Town of Hamilton, said state and county, and whatever automobile I may own at the time of my death. The above bequests to be in lieu of dower and year’s support. Item Three. I give and bequeath to the children of my niece Mrs. Mollie Cook, to wit: Marie Farley, Lyra Penny and William C. Cook, the sum of Ten Thousand ($10,000.00) Dollars, to be equally divided among them, share and share alike. Item Four. I give to Lyra Cash Penny, the daughter of my niece, Mrs. Mollie Cook, the sum of Three Thousand ($3,000.00) Dollars; and to each of the other two children of said Mrs. Mollie Cook, to-wit: Mrs. Marie Farley and William Cook, I give Two Thousand ($2,000.00) Dollars. Item Five. I hereby give to Irene C. Sparks, the sum of Two Thousand ($2000.00) Dollars: To Georgia Strickland the sum of One Thousand ($1000.00) Dollars); To Mary Thrash, the sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars. Item Six. I give to my niece, Mary J. Hall, the sum of Ten Thousand ($10,000.000 Dollars, and should my said niece die before I do, then the above sum to be equally divided between her two children, to wit: Sarah Hall Sutherland and James Hamilton Hall. Item Seven. I give to Sarah Hall Sutherland the sum of Three Thousand ($3,000.00) Dollars, and to James Hamilton Hall, the sum of Two Thousand ($2,000.00) Dollars. Item Eight. I give to my great niece, Mary Jack Kenny, the sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars. Item Nine. Should my faithful servant, Ann Miller Benning, colored, remain in my service until my death, or should she remain in my service as long as her health permits and quits my service on account of failing health, then she is to receive the sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars. Item Ten. For his faithful services, I give to Mack Miller, colored, Two Hundred and Fifty ($250.00) Dollars. Item Eleven. All the rest and residue of my estate, of every kind and character, wherever located, I hereby give and devise to the First National Bank of Atlanta, as Trustee, nevertheless, for the following uses, to-wit: The annual income from same I direct to be paid over by said Trustee semi-annually to my son Alexander F. Copeland for and during his natural life, and at his death the corpus of said estate herein conveyed by this Item of my will to be divided in two equal parts, one to go to the children of my niece, Mrs. Mollie Cook, to-wit: Marie Farley, Lyra Penny and William C. Cook, equally and share and share alike; and the other half to go to the children of my niece, Mrs. Mary J. Hall, to wit: Sarah Hall Sutherland and James Hamilton Hall, equally and share and share alike. Item Twelve. I hereby name my wife, Maggie Copeland, and my son, Alexander F. Copeland, as the Executors of this my will, and relieve them of bond, and from making any returns to any court. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this the 1st day of Oct. 1930. Alexander F. Copeland Signed, declared and published by Alexander F. Copeland as his last will and testament, in the presence of the undersigned, who subscribe our names as witnesses at the instance and request of said testator, he having first signed the same in our presence and we signing in his presence and in the presence of each other.
