All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm *********************** This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: BOTAUS@aol.com Tana Last Will & Testament of William HOPKINS Will Book 2, Page 262, Harris County, Georgia State of Georgia) County of Harris) I, William Hopkins, deeming it right and propper that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind providence has blessed me, do make this my last will and testament, revoking all others heretofore made by me Item 1st: I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner suited to my circumstances in life Item 2nd: I direct that all of my just debts be paid by my executor hereinafter named. Item 3rd: I devise and bequeath to my beloved son, Powettan L. Hopkins, eight hundred dollars to be retained by him out of my estate. Item 4th: I give and bequeath to my beloved son, James C. Hopkins, five hundred and fifty dollars. Item 5th: I give and bequeath to my beloved grand son Wm. T. Hopkins, son of Powettan L. Hopkins, fifty dollars and my besdstead and bed and bedding Item 6th: I give and bequeath to my beloved Grandson, William S. Hopkins, son of Milton Hopkins, decd, one hundred dollars, and I direct and desire that my son, Powettan L. Hopkins, keep it in charge until my Grand Son Milton S. becomes of age and in case Milton S. should die before he arrives to the age of twenty one years I desire the one hundred dollars be paid over to my Grand Son William T. Hopkins, the son of Powettan L. Hopkins. Item 7th: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Lubenia Hattox, three hundred and fifty dollars. Item 8th: I give and bequeath fo my beloved daughter, Atlanta Cornett, wife of Moses Cornett, two hundred dollars. Item 9th: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Volisha A. Jenkins, wife of Lewis Jenkins, five hundred dollars. Item 10th: I give and bequeath to my beloved Grand Children, the heirs of my daughter Parthena Hadley decd, namely, William Hadley, Thomas P. Hadley & Edey Hadley, fifty dollars apiece. Item 11th: Should my estate from any cause be so exhausted that [all] of the legacies given above cannot be paid in full, then and in that event I direct that my sons, Powettan L. Hopkins and James C. Hopkins, mentioned in Items 3rd and 4th of this my will, be first paid in full. Those mentioned in the remainder items to be paid in pro ratta. of what remains, if any Item 12th: I constitute and appoint my beloved son Powettan L. Williams, Ordinary in and for said County, P.L. Hopkins, constituted and appointed Extr. of the last will and testament of Wm. Hopkins, decd, and produced said will for probate, and also personally appeared H. Carmichael, one of the subscribing witnesses to said will who on oath says, that he signed said will as one of the subscribing witnesses at the instance and request of the testator and that he saw M.H. Spence and J.C. Reid, the other subscribing witnesses, sign said will in the presence of the testator at his request and tht said testator signed said will as his last will and testament in the presence of all the subscribing witnesses. Deponeth further saith that said testator at the time of signing said will was of sound disposing mind and memory and that he signed the same of his own free will and accord without any compulsion or undue influence whatever.
