Duke, Deceased. Georgia, Harris County. I Welcome P. Duke of said State and County being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament. Item 1. I give, bequeath and devise unto my wife, Mary Duke, the following property to-wit: The seventy five acres of land off of the North West corner of lot number (122) one hundred and Twenty-Two in the 21st District of said County, including all improvements thereon, and also, all of my personal property of every description whatever that I may own at my death, for and during her natural life, and at her death, all of my said property, both real and personal, is to be sold by my executor hereinafter appointed by me, and equally divided between my son E. N. Duke, Georgia A. Rogers, Mary Jane Duke and Emma Roseman my children. Item 2 I give, bequeath and devise unto E.N. Duke, my son, the following land to-wit: The fifty acres of land off of the East side of lot number One Hundred and Twenty-Five, and also, the fifty acres off of the East side of lot number One Hundred and Twenty-Two in the 21st District of said County, for and during his natural life and at his death said property to descend to the heirs of his body, and if he should die without issue, then said property is to descend to his sisters, Georgia A. Rogers, Mary J. Duke and Emma Roseman. Item 3. I give, and bequeath and devise to my daughter Georgia A. Rogers, the following land to wit: The One Hundred acres more or less off of the East side of lot of land Number One Hundred and Twenty-Three known as the Carpenter Land, for and during her natural life, and at her death, said property is to descend to the heirs of her body. Item 4th I give, bequeath and devise to my daughter Mary J. Duke, wife of Marshall Duke, the following land to-wit: The fifty acres of land off of lot number One Hundred and Thirty-Five due West of the Fifty acres given in Item 2 to E. N. Duke, and also the Fifty acres of land due west of the land given to said E. N. Duke in said second Item, off of lot number One Hundred and Twenty-Two in the 21st District of said County, for and during her natural life and at her death said land is to decend to the heirs of her body. Item 5th I give, bequeath and devise to my daughter Emma Roseman, wife of Augustus Roseman, the following land to wit: The One Hundred acres off of the West side of lot of land number One Hundred and Thirty-Five in the 21st District of said County, for and during her natural life and at her death said property is to descend to the heirs of her body. Item 6th I hereby constitute and appoint my son E. N. Duke executor of this my last will and testament. This the 29th day of April 1887. W. P. Duke Signed, declared and published by Welcome P. Duke as his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers, who subscribe our names hereto, in the presence of the estator, at his instance and request, and or each other, he signing in our presence and we signing in his presence. Duke, as recorded in will book C page 93 and 94 of the records of the Ordinary's office of Harris County, GA. with the original thereof, now remaining in this office, and the same is a correct transcript therefrom, and of the whole of such original record. In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the Court of Ordinary, this the 5th day of March 1926. Additional Comments: The original copy of this will was found amoung the personal effects of Allen Duke of Lagrange, Georgia after his death several years ago. ======================================== "Kemis Massey" Welcome Parks DUKE is my gggrandfather through his daughter Emma ROSAMOND. He built a log cabin on what is now Duke Road that is still there today. The land he gave to Emma was where my grandmother - her brothers and sisters, mother - her brothers and sisters grew up. The land is still in the family owned today by the EVANS line.
