Arlington, VA, May 17, 1934: "Records show J. M. Madden, Private, Co. D, 1st Regt., Ga. Reserves. Enlisted Apr. 29, 1864 at Atlanta, Ga. Rolls from Apr. 29 - Oct 31, 1864 show him present. Captured, Anderson, SC, May 3, 1865 and paroled there, date not shown." According to his application he was born in 1846 in Elbert County, GA. He was paroled at Albany, GA in May, 1865. He enlisted late Feb. or 1st of March 1864. Was not present when his unit surrendered as he was at home on sick furlough. Received Pension.
