April 6 - Mrs. Sarah Thornton Alford, wife of D. C. Alford, prominent Hartwell citizen, died here Saturday night. Mrs. Alford, who before her marriage was Miss Sarah Thornton, was a member of a well known north Georgia family, and was a daughter of the late Rev. Calaway Thornton. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. L. L. Stapleton of Athens, Mrs. J. E. Cobb and Mrs. Lafayette Adams, and two sons, Benjamin C. Alford and McCade Alford of Hartwell. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock this morning from the Baptist church. Additional Comments: Elbert Co. marriage records show D. C. Alford and Sallie F. Thornton were married on 3 Oct 1878.
