MRS. MARY E. DODD, HARTWELL PIONEER, SUCCUMBS AT 86 - Hartwell, Ga., December 
27 - Mrs. Mary E. Dodd, 86, widow of the late Captain Frank Dodd of Pierce 
City, Mo., a prominent officer of the Confederate army, passed away last night 
at 8 o'clock at the home of her son-in-law, McAlpin Thornton. She is survived 
by two daughters, Mrs. McAlpin Thornton of Hartwell, and Mrs. C. L. Hoborn of 
Pasadena, Calif. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the residence of 
McAlpin Thornton, Rev. Thomas A. Thornton officiating. Mrs. Dodd was a 
prominent member of the Baptist church and loved by the entire community for 
her noble character. Her remains were forwarded to Pierce City, Mo., for 
interment.
