He married Delilah Jane Gay (b. April 1825 in Jasper County, Georgia) on July 18, 1839 in Coweta County, Georgia. Delilah Jane was the daughter of James Gay and Susannah Cates, and the granddaughter of Allen Gay and Abigail Castleberry. Joshua Screws died between 1865 and 1869 per census records. The 1864 census for Reorganizing the Georgia Militia shows Joshua Screws in Heard County, Georgia . Delilah Jane Screws is shown as head of household, presumably a widow in the 1870 census in Heard County, Georgia. Joshua Screws burial site is unknown. Delilah Jane Screws moved to Cleburne County, Alabama by the 1880 census and then on to Cullman County, Alabama by 1892, per land deed records. Several of her grown children are in the 1900 and 1910 census in Cullman County, Alabama. Delilah Jane Gay Screws died Sept 1901 in Bailyton, Cullman County, Alabama. Joshua Screws and Delilah Jane Gay had eleven known children: 1. Susan H. Screws b. 1840 in Coweta County, Georgia, married Jonathan Wallis 2. Francis Marion Screws was born Sept 1, 1841 in Coweta County, Georgia, and married Mary Ann Ashley (b. Nov 1834 in SC or GA) in 1861 in Georgia. Francis Marion Screws was a civil war soldier enlisting as a Pvt. in Co. F 13th GA Regt. Cavalry, CSA. He died Oct 9, 1917 and Mary Ann died Oct 22, 1913. They are buried at the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Heard County, Georgia. 3. Mary Elizabeth Screws was born Jan 4, 1843 in Coweta County, Georgia. She married John Madison Herring on Aug 5, 1880 in Cleburne County, Alabama. She died Aug 3, 1926 in Cullman County, Alabama. 4. George W. Screws was born in 1844 in Georgia, and married Jane Martin July 26, 1868 in Troup County, Georgia. He died after 1910, possibly in Cullman County, Alabama. 5. Martha Jane Screws was born in 1846 in Georgia. 6. Nancy A.E. Screws was born in 1848 in Georgia. 7. James Screws was born in 1849 in Georgia. 8. John H. Screws was born in 1851 in Coweta County, Georgia. 9. Matilda T. Screws was born in 1856 in Georgia. 10. Pruda Percilla Screws was born Nov 1859 in Georgia, and married William Robert Pesnell on Nov 13, 1879 in Cleburne County, Alabama. She died in 1898 in Alabama. 11. Allen M. Screws was born May 1863 in Georgia, and married Martha Cook on July 14, 1881 in Cleburne County, Alabama. He died Dec 1924 in Marshall County, Alabama.
