Heard County Georgia Historical Letter Dilbeck re: Arrington-Pearce families File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by VCJFreeman@aol.com Valerie Freeman Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/heard.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm The following is from a letter written by Marvis (Pearce) Dilbeck (1909 - 2000) of Jasper, Ga [Pickens Co.].to Betty [Goolsby] Gross of LaFayette, Ga., [Walker Co.] in Feb. 1981 "I am a descendant of Charles J. Arrington and Frances Davis. Charles and John Arrington were brothers who lived about 1/2 mile apart near Ridgeway United Methodist Church in Heard Co. I am next to youngest in the Mary Elizabeth (oldest dau. of Charles) and William Oliver Pearce. We lived at Ridgeway until 1918 when we moved to Bowdon, Ga. I spent a week with Grandma and kin at Ridgeway each summer until 1928 when Grandma died. They didn't have a sale of personal things - just put them in equal piles and had "Aunt Mary" drop a number on the piles and then draw numbers. I remember Aunt Mary [Prestridge] as small (about 90 lbs.) - many wrinkles and very sweet. Everyone loved her. When she went to church she always wore a black bonnet, a black dress and apron. I don't remember a thing about Uncle John, so he must have died early. I remember Jeff who married Verna Burgess and had a housefull of children. Lizzie and Charlie Cox lived in Bowdon when we were there and Billy and Lizzie (Davis) lived not far away in the county. - I knew Molly [Mary Mollie Arrington], who married Dock Yarborough. Their daughter Norma comes to the reunion. I didn't know Isham [Arrington], who married Lucy Walls. Aunt Mary had a brother, Jim Prestridge,(we said "Prestige") who married John Arrington's sister Sarah (Sallie) - also, a brother William (Bill) married John and Charles Arrington's sister, Elizabeth (Betty). Uncle Jim and Aunt Sallie, Uncle Bill and Aunt Betty lived near Great-Grandpa Isham [Arrington] about 3 miles south of Grandpa Charles [Arrington]- in Randolph Co., Ala. Isham's home was on the Ga. side of the line. My Uncle Lewis lived at Isham's homeplace until his death. One of my earliest Recollection's was walking to Uncle Lewis' and picking cotton for him. We had fun playing on the cotton on the porch of Isham's old log house. I wish I had a picture of it. The name Noah Freeman is familiar, but when my cousin gave me Sallie's [Arrington] marriage, I couldn't remember them, nor do I remember anything about Nancy and "Bub" Davis. My Dad's older sister, Mollie Pearce married Jim Freeman and I believe they were brothers [yes they were] ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
