Blanks, of Heard County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said State and has been continuously since the fifteenth day of October 1865; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the states, and served as a Private in Company E of 34th Regiment of Alabama Volunteers, Managolds's ? Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service at the battle of Atlanta in the State of Georgia on the 28th day of July 1864, he was wounded as follows: By a minnie ball entering the right breast coming out just below the scapula fracturing the fifth and six ribs injuring the site and producing a shortness of breath and pain in breathing. That at the battle of Bentonville, North Carolina on the 20th day of March 1865 was wounded by a piece of shell in the left hip. These two wounds alone disable him one half. At the same battle of Bentonville was wounded as follows: A minnie ball entereing the upper third of the right thigh from the front and passing out behind fracturing the thigh and producing stiffness in the hip joint and rendering the right leg substantially and essentially useless. The right foot and right leg are much smaller than the left foot and leg. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act approved Oct 24, 1887 and the acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year thereunder ending October 26, 1890. Blanks of Heard County, State of Georgia who states that he has heretofore been allowed a pension of Fifty Dollars for useless leg, and desires to make application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year ending Oct 26, 1891. Crain, Ordinary of said County do certify that I am well acquainted with John Henry Blanks the applicant in the foregoing affadavit and am well satisfied that the statements made by him in his said affadavit are true and that he is disabled to the extent that he claims and I know he is the individual he represents himself to be and that he resides in this County. Blanks transferred from Heard County, Georgia to Carroll County, GA Personally appears, J. H. Blanks of Carroll County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said State and has resided therein continuously since the year 1866; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the states and served as a private in Co. E 34th Regiment of Alabama Volunteers; that whilst engaged in such military service in the State of North Carolina in April 1865 that he was wounded, injured or diseased as follows: By gun shot in right thigh upper third whil in line of battle at Bentonville, NC April 1865, rendering applicant unable to perform the usual manual avocations of life. Deponent makes application for the pension for which he is entitled for the year ending Oct 26, 1904. Lanier of said state and county is hereby presented as a witness in support of the application of J. H. Blanks for the pension provided by the Act of 1910 in said State and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? D.A. Lanier, Notasnega ?, Ala 2. How long and since when have you known J. H. Blanks the applicant? I have known him since before the war. 3. Where does he now reside and since when has he been a bona fide continuing resident in this state and how do you know? In Georgia. (no further answer). 4. When, where and in what Company and Regiment did he enlist during the war from 1861 to 1865? Sept 1861, Tallapoosa Co. Ala. 5. How did you obtain your information of his Service? I was in the same Company. 6. How long within your own personal knowledge did he perform actual military service with this Company and Regiment? From 1861 to 1865. 7. When and were was his command surrendered or discharged? Don't know exactly. 8. Were you personally present at the surrender? No 9. If not, where were you and how came you there? I was at home wounded. 10. Was the applicant personally present with this command at surrender? No. 11. If not where was he and how came him there? He was wounded. I don't know exactly when. 12. When did he leave his command? Where was his command when he left it? Don't know, Don't know. 13. In what way was he prevented from returning to his command? By wounds. 14. Blanks of said State and County hereby applies for the pension provided by the act of 1910 to Confederate Soldiers and submits his sworn statement with his testimony to make out the same and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded, answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? J. H. Blanks, Carroll County, GA 2. How long and since when have you been a continuous resident citizen of this state? Since 1866. 3. Did you enlist in the Army of the Confederate States or the Organized Militia of this State from 1861 to 1865? Army of the Confederate States. 4. When and where and in what company and regiment did you enlist? Sept 1861 in Tallapoosa Co. Ala in Co. E 34th Ala Reg't Inft. 5. How long did you remain in the actual military service with said company and regiment? From date of enlistment till surrender. 6. When and where was your company and regiment surrendered or discharged from the Service? I was in a hospital at Abbeville, SC at the time. 7. Were you actually present with your command when it was surrendered or discharged? No. 8. If you were not actually present state specifically and clearly where you were. I was wounded at the Battle of Bentonville, NC and was sent to hospital at Thomasville, NC and afterward transferrred to Abbeville, SC. 9. Where was your command when you left it? Bentonville, NC. 10. What property of every description was owned, in the use, possession and control of yourself and wife and it's cash value on the 4th of Nov 1908? Mule $30., Cow $25., Household and Kitchen furniture $8., Buggy $15. 11. What annual or monthly income or earnings of yourself and wife and the source derived have you? What little I can make from my own labor and pension of $50. 12. Have you ever applied for a pension of any amount from this state or the United States? State, $50. 13. H. Blanks Date of Death: March 23, 1929 April 1, 1929 J. H. Blanks, Est. To: Roberts Funeral Home Suit, ??, Casket $140. Georgia, Polk County Personally appeared, D. L. Roberts of Roberts Funeral Home and on oath says that the attached account is true, correct and unpaid and J. H. Blanks has no estate to pay same. D. L. Roberts This April 11, 1929. L.H. Smith, Ordinary, Polk Co. GA State of Georgia, Carroll County Personally appeared, C.L. Payne of said County who after being duly sworn on oath says that he knew J. H. Blanks of said County and that said Pensioner was on the pension roll of said county at the time of his death which occurred in Polk County in this State on the 23rd day of March 1929 and that pensioner left no surviving widow and no estate of any value sufficient to pay these funeral expenses which amounted to $140. per sworn statements fully and completely itemized. C.L. Payne April 15, 1929 Certificate of Ordinary Georgia, Carroll County I, E.T. Steed, Ordinary of said County, do certify that I personally know C.L. Payne who is a resident of said County and that said person is of truthful and trustworthy character, entitled to full faith and credit; that I also knew J. H. Blanks while in life and that this was the same person whose name appears on the pension roll of Carroll County and was paid a pension of wo Hundred Dollars in said County for 1928, and I now believe the pensioner to be dead. Blanks as an heir of Thomas and Sarah Hogan in 1894: State of Georgia, Heard County This indenture made this 2nd day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety four, between Thomas Hogan, one of the heirs at law of Sarah Hogan, deceased, of the county of Heard of the one part, and Martha Blanks, wife of John H. BLANKS of the county of Heard of the other part, witnesseth, that the said Thomas Hogan, for and consideration of the sum of one hundred fifty dollars in hand paid at or before the signing, sealing and delivering of these presents, do grant, convey, sell, etc. unto the said Martha BLANKS, her heirs, all that tract or parcel of land as follows to wit; one third (1/3) undivided interests in the east half of lot of land number 53 in the twelfth district of originally Carroll, now Heard County, Georgia, containing one hundred one and one fourth acres more or less, the same being the one third undivided interest which I hold and own and possessed as one of the heirs at law of Sarah Hogan, deceased and being of the farm on which I now reside. .....the said Thomas Hogan has bargained, sold, conveyed, etc. to the said Martha Blanks, her heirs, assigns, etc., and has affixed his hand and seal this second day of June 1894. Thomas Hogan, X, his mark Recorded January 19, 1898 Heard County, Georgia Deed Book 2 (p. 316) State of Georgia, County of Heard This indenture made the 17th day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety Four, between T. M. Hogan Jr. of the county of Heard of the one part, and Martha BLANKS of the County of Heard of the other part, witnesseth that the said party of the first part, for an in consideration of the sum of one dollar, in hand, paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, has granted, bargained, conveyed, sold, etc. unto the party of the second part, her heirs, etc., all that tract of land lying and being in the 13th district originally Carroll now Heard County, Georgia, the same being one third of one hundred acres of land lot number 53, the same having been cut of the west end of the south half of said lot containing thirty three and one third acres more or less. To have and to hold the said bargained premises, etc. for the proper use and benefit of the said Martha Blanks, her heirs, executors, etc. and the said T.M. Hogan Jr. has bargained said premises unto the said Martha Blanks, her heirs, etc. against the said Thomas M. Hogan Jr., his heirs, executors, etc...In Witness thereof, the said Thomas M.
