What is your name and where do you reside? Littleton Phillips, Frolona, Heard County, Georgia 2. Where did you reside on January 1, 1894 and how long have you been a resident of this state? Heard County. I have lived in State for twelve years. 3. When and where were you born? Butts County, GA March 26th 1829. 4. Did you volunteer for Confederate Army or the Georgia Militia? Confederate Army 5. When did you enlist? Richmond VA Feby 1862 6. In what company and regiment did you enlist? Company K 14th Ala Reg 7. How long did you remain in that company and regiment? Till surrender 8. Not answered 9. For how long a period did you discharge regular military duty? Over three years 10. When, where and under what circumstances were you discharged from service? Was discharged in Virginia at close of war 11. What is your occupation? Nothing 12. How much can you earn per annum by your own exertion or labor? Nothing 13. What has been your occupation since 1865? Farming 14. What sum would be necessary for your support for this pension year and how much are you able to contribute thereto in either labor or income? $100. I can contribute nothing. 15. What is your present physical condition and how long have you been in such condition? I was wounded during war though back of neck. Crippled up with Rheumatism and confined to bed a great portion of my time and old and general debility. 16. Upon which of the following grounds do you base your application for pension, viz; age and poverty, infirmity and poverty or blindness and poverty? Infirmity and poverty. 17. State how long you have been in such condition that you could not earn your support; give a full and complete history of the infirmity and its extent: On account of Rheumatism; am crippled so I can not walk without aid of stick and confined to my bed a great portion of my time. Old and general debility and health emaciated. 18. What property, effects or income do you possess? A small amount of household and kitchen furniture. 19. What property, effects or income did you possess in 1893 and 1894 and what disposition of any did you make of same? Same as I have now; and an ox and wagon. 20. In what county did you reside during those years and what property did you then return for taxation? Heard County 21. How were you supported during the years 1893 and 1894? My wife had a corn patch and I sold chickens and eggs with ox and wagon. 22. How much did your support cost for each of those years and what portion did you contribute thereto by your own labor or income? Very little, scantily supported. 23. What was your employment during 1893 and 1894; what pay did you receive in each year? Nothing. I made very little peddling on chickens and eggs; had to give up my team for my debts. 24. Are you married and have you a family; if so, is your wife living and how many children do you have? Am married, have living wife, eleven children, all married and left me. They have large families and have no means of support but their own labor. 25. Are you receiving a pension under any law of this state? Crain, Ordinary of Heard County April 20, 1895 Questions for Witness State of Alabama, Randolph County J.W. Stewart of said State and County having been presented as a witness in support of the application of Littleton Phillips for pension, and after being duly sworn, true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? J.W. Stewart and I reside at Wedowee Randolph County Ala. 2. Are you acquainted with Littleton Phillips the applicant, if so, how long have you known him? 33 years in Feby last. 3. Where does he reside and how long has he been a resident of this State? He lives now in the State of GA but don't know how long he has lived there. 4. Do you know of his having served in the Confederate Army or the Georgia Militia; How do you Know this? I know that he served in the Confederate Army. It was in the 14th Reg Ala Vol. 6. Were you a member of the same regiment and company? I was. 7. How long did he perform regular military duty and what do you know of his service as a Confederate soldier and the time and circumstances of his discharge from the service? He was a good soldier and was with the command at the surrender so he says. I was already a prisoner at the time of the surrender though I was with him nearly 3 years. Ala April 23, 1895 State of Georgia, Heard County T. G. Gore of said State and County having been presented as a witness in support of the application of Littleton Phillips for pension and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and asnwers as follows: To 1st. Ques. he answers: T.G. Gore, Frolona, Heard County, GA To 2nd Ques. he answers: Am acquainted with Littleton Phillips; have known him 12 years To 3rd Ques. he answers: He resides in Heard County; Has lived in GA 12 years. To 8th Ques. he answers: He has no property, effects or income. I live a neighbor to him 1/2 mile of him. To 9th Ques. he answers: In 1893 and 1894 applicant had ox and wagon. It was sold for debts. To 10th Ques. he answers: He can do nothing. To 11st Ques. he answers: He is on account of his age and physical condition. To 12th Ques. he answers: He and his wife tended a little corn patch and he peddled on checken and eggs with his ox and wagon. To 13th Ques. he answers: A small portion To 14th Ques. he answers: He is suffering with rheumatism causing his legs to swell so he cannot walk at times. General Debility and he is very old and feeble. T.G. Gore Sworn to and subscribed before me this April 23rd 1895. G.A. Crain, Ordinary April 22, 1895 Affidavit of Physicians State of Georgia, Heard County Personally came before me, O.C. Brittain and J.W. Daniel, both known to me as reputable physicians of said County who being severally sworn say on oath that they have examined carefully Littleton Phillips, applicant for pension and after personal examination, say that his precise physical condition is as follows: Shot by a minnie ball through the back of the nexk causing neuralgia of the head. He is suffering from chronic Rheumatism. We further say on oath that the physical condition of the applicant renders him unable to labor at any work or calling sufficient to earn a support for himself. O.C. Brittain, M.D., J.W. Daniel, M.D. January 4, 1900 For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appears, Littleton Phillips of Heard County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said County and State says on oath that he has continuously resided in said State ever since January 1884; that he is 71 years old and by occupation a Farmer; that his physical condition is as follows: He is suffering from wound, rheumatism, constitution and general health all broken down and he is a complete physical wreck. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act approved Dec 15th 1894 and the acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year 1900. Crain, Ordinary of Heard County do hereby certify that Littleton Philips has heretofore been a resident of Heard County and drew an indigent pension from the State of Georgia to the amount of sixty dollars per annum.
