B 10th Reg't Confederate Cavalry, Alabama Disability: Rheumatism Amount (per annum) $50. For Applicants Who Have Not Heretofore Drawn State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appears, Allen Hester of said Heard County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he was born on the 10th day of July 1835, that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of Georgia and has been continuously since the Winter of 1848; that he enlisted in the military service on the __ day of March 1862 during the war between the states and served in Co. B of the 10th Regiment of Alabama Volunteers Hillard's Legion Brigade and was honorably discharged in April 1865; that whilst engaged in such military service in the line of duty in the State of Illinois in 1863 he was disabled or wounded at follows: While in the winter of 1863 he was captured by the enemy and carried to prison at Rock Island Ill. He there remained in prison for nineteen months and there contracted Rheumatism and he came home a great sufferer from said disease and it has wrecked his whole system, he now suffers continually with said disease and has all the while since the war. He can't work or expose himself and if does it will give him great pain and he can not rest at night. He is by occupation a farmer and is totally disabled from farm work. Said disease is now permanent and has been since his term of service in the army and he is rendered by said disease practically incompetent to perform the ordinary manual vocation of life. Before he entered the service he was stout and healthy and in no way or manner affected with said disease. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of Section 1250 of the Code and the Acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year thereunder, ending October 26th 1900. Allen Hester, X, his mark Robt G Crain, Ordinary Affadavit for Three Witnesses State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appeared, Robert Merrill, N.B. Moore and W.M. Buchanan, personally known to me to be trustworthy citizens, each of whom, being duly sworn according to law, severally say under oath that they are personally and well acquainted with Allen Hester whose application is herewith presented for a pension, that he has resided in this State continuously since the Winter of 1848, that he served in Co. B of the 10th Alabama Confederate Calvary Hilliards Brigade and from our personal knowledge while in the line of duty was injured by the service as follows: In the winter of 1863 he was captured by the enemy and carried to prison at Rock Island Illinois and there remained in prison for nineteen months and was roughly treated and fared bad and he there contracted rheumatism and after his discharge from prison he suffered continually with said disease. And since then it has wrecked his whole system. It causes him increased pain which is very severe and he cannot sleep at night. He can't exponse himself in rain or cold and has not sufficient strength or use of his limbs to hold out to work or plow or do anything that causes effort, exertion or strength. He is by occupaton a farmer and totally disabled by said disease to do farm work. Said injury is permanent and renders the applicant practically incompetent to perform the ordinary vocation of life. Before he entered the service he was stout and healthy and in no way affected with said disease. We personally know the above facts. We were with him in the Army and have known him ever since. Robt G Crain, Ordinary Physician's Affadavit State of Georgia, Heard County Personally came before Robt G Crain, Ordinary of said County, O.C. Brittain and W.A. Ware, both known to me as reputable physicians of said County who being severally sworn say on oath that they have carefully examined Allen Hester and after such personal examination, say that the present condition of applicant is as follows: He is suffering from a chronic case of Rheumatism. The muscles in limbs contracted and the same has wrecked his whole system and he suffers incessant pain which is very severe when he exerts himself at labor or exposes himself in bad weather. He is very weak and not able to do but very little. O.C. Brittain, M.D., W.A. Ware, M.D. Sworn to and subscribed before me this 11 day of January 1900. Robt G Crain, Ordinary For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pension State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appears, Allen Hester of Heard County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said State and has resided therein continuously ever since November 1891, that while engaged in the military service he was wounded injured or diseased as follows: While in East Tennessee he was captured by enemy and carried to Rock Island prison. He was then exposed to cold and contracted Rheumatism. The same is now a permanent injury and renders applicant practically incompetent to perform the ordinary manual vocation of life. Deponent makes application for pension that he is entitled to for the year ending October 26th 1903. I have heretofore under said law been allowed an Invalid Pension of Fifty Dollars for the year 1901. Allen Hester, X, his mark Sworn to and subscribed before me this 3 day of January 1902. Hester, January 4, 1906 Georgia, Heard County I, Robt G Crain, Ordinary of said County, do certify that I personally know M.R. Hester the applicant and that she is the lawful widow of Allen Hester, who was on the Invalid Pensioner Roll of said Heard County and was paid a pension from Heard County for 1905 and at the time of death on the 1 day of January 1906 there was due to him an unpaid pension of $50. from the State of Georgia. And I know C.D. Young, the within witness and he is of a truthful and trustworthy character and entitled to full credit. Given under my hand and seal this 4 day of January 1906. State of Georgia, Heard County Personally before me comes Mrs. M R Hester of said County after being duly sworn on oath says that she is the widow of Allen Hester of Heard County and was paid a pension of Fifty Dollars from Heard County for 1905 and that the said Allen Hester died in Heard County on the 1st day of January 1906 and at the time of his death a pension of fifty dollars was due him from Heard County and unpaid for 1906. Applicant further swears that she married the said Allen Hester on the __ day of September 1889 in Heard County, State of Georgia and resided with him from date of marriage to his death as his lawful wife and is now his dependent widow and she asks that the Pension so due and unpaid be paid to her. M.R. Hester, X, her mark Affadavit of Witness Georgia, Heard County Personally before me comes C.D. Young who says on oath that he knew Allen Hester while in life and he knows Mrs. M.R. Hester the above applicant; that he knows that the said Allen Hester and M.R. Smith the applicant were in due form of law married in the county of Heard in the State of Georgia on the __ day of September 1889 and that they resided together as husband and wife from the date of marriage to the day of his death on 1 day of Jany 1906 and I now know that she is his dependent widow.
