What is your name and where do you reside? Mansafield Bailey, Heard Co. GA Franklin, GA 2. Where did you reside on January 1st 1894 and how long have you been a resident of this State? In Heard Co. Been a resident about 18 months. 3. When and where were you born? In Newton Co. GA in the year 1824 4. Did you volunteer in the Confederate Army or in the Georgia Militia? In the Confederate Army 6. In what company and regiment did you enlist? Co D 35 Regiment GA 7. How long did you remain in that company and regiment? About three years 8. If you were discharged from same and joined another or if you were transferred to another, give an account of such discharge or transfer. I was discharged from a wound received in the fight at the Battle of Frederickburge VA Dec 1863. 9. For how long a period did you discharge regular military duty? About three years. 10. When, where and under what circumstances were you discharged from service? Dec 1863 by a gun shot wound received at Fredericksburge. 11. What is your present occupation? Nothing at all 12. How much can you earn per annum by your own exertion or labor? But very little. 13. What has been your occupation since 1865? Farming and Carpentry. 14. What sum would be necessary for your suport for this pension year and how much are you able to contribute thereto either by labor or income? I suppose about $100. I am not able to contribute anything. 15. What is your present physical condition and how long have you been in such condition? I am in a low state of health. I have a cough that nearly weares me out and I have been for about six years not able to work but little, from age and the wounds got in the war. 16. Upon which of the following grounds do you base your application for pension, viz: age and poverty, infirmity and poverty or blindness and poverty? Infirmity and poverty. 17. How long have you been in such condition that you could not earn your support; give a full and complete history of the infirmity and it's extent? I was wounded at Fredericksburge 1863, shot though both thighs just above the knees and I have a cough that has about worn me out, till the last five or six years can do nothing. 18. What property, effects or income do you possess? Nothing at all. 19. What property, effects or income did you possess in 1893 and 1894 and what disposition if any did you make of same? No property in 1893 and 1894. 20. In what county did you reside during those years and what property did you then return for taxation? I lived in Heard and returned nothing. 21. How were you supported during the years 1893 and 1894? By the charity of the people and what little I could do. 22. How much did your support cost for each of these years and what portion did you contribute thereto? Something like $50. and I did but little. 23. What was your employment during 1893 and 1894? What pay did you receive in each year? Worked on a farm and received no pay. 24. Are you married and have you a family? If so is your wife living and how many children have you? I have a living wife, and 12 children; Margaret female ?? years, the youngest 20, Mansfield. They all scattered over the United States. I haven't ?? in a long time, all are ?? and live by own labor. 25. Are you receiving a pension under any law of this state, if so what amount and for what disability? None at all. Harris of said State and County having been presented as a witness in support of the application of Mansafield Bailey for pension and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? H.L. Harris, Awbry, GA 2. Are you acquainted with Mansafield Bailey the applicant, if so, how long have you known him? Ever since the year 1850. 3. Where does he reside and how long has he been a resident of this State? Heard Co. ever since I new him except a few years in Ala. 4. Do you know of his having served in the Confederate Army of the Georgia Militia? How long do you know this? I know of his service. I was with him while in service in the army as a soldier. 5. When, where and in what company and regiment did he enlist? In Heard Co. 21 Sept 1861 in Co. D 35th GA Regiment. 6. Were you a member of the same company and regiment? I was. 7. How long did he perform regular military duty and what do you know of his service as a Confederate soldier and the time and circumstances of his discharge from the service? About three years till he was discharged. He made a good soldier. 8. What property, income or effects has the applicant? I am satisfied that he is destitute of any means. I have known him ever since 1850. 9. What property, effects or income did the applicant possess in 1893 and 1894 and what disposition if any did he make of same? He has no means in 1893 and 1894. 10. What is the applicant's occupation and physical condition? He was carpenter and farmer and he is very feeble and of late years. He is not able to work to amount to anything. 11. Is the applicant unable to support himself by labor of any sort, if so, why not? He is because he is worn out from age and is very feeble. He also has a wound rec'd in the War. 12. How was he supported during the years 1893 and 1894? By what little he could himself and the help of the people. 13. What portion of his support for these two years was derived from his own labor or income? Very little 14. Give a complete statement of the applicant's physical condition that entitles him to a pension under the Act of December 15th 1894? From his age and wounds received in the war he is not able to work. Brittain, M.D. and W.A. Ware, M.D. both known to me as reputable physicians of said County who being severally sworn say on oath that they have examined carefully Mansfield Bailey the applicant for pension and after such personal examination say that his precise physical condition is as follows: From old age and infirmity he is not able to make a support for himself. He was shot at Fredericksburg through both thighs and makes it difficult for him to walk. We further say on oath that the physical condition of applicant renders him unable to labor at any work or calling sufficient to earn a support for himself. O.C. Brittain, M.D., W.A. Ware, M.D. Power of Attorney State of Georgia, Heard County I, Mansfield Bailey, hereby authorize Robt G Crain of Heard County Georgia to receive and receipt the pension paid hereon and request that he remit same to me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and sel this 7 day of January 1897. Mansfield Bailey, X, his mark For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appeared, Mansfield Bailey of Heard County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said County and State and that he has resided in said state continuously ever since the 21st ? day of October 1892; that he is 73 years old and by occupation a farmer; that his physical condition is as follows: He has been wounded and is very feeble and ill, broken down in health and from infirmity and old age he is able to do but little. He has no property at all, destitute of any means, and by reason of his physical condition he is unable to support himself by his own exertion or labor. Deponent desires to participate in the benefit of the Act approved December 15th 1894 and the acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year 1896. He has heretofore been allowed a pension for the year 1896. Mansafield Bailey, X, his mark Sworn to and subscribed before me this 7 day of January 1897. Robt G Crain, Ordinary of Heard County For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appeared, Mansfield Bailey at Heard County, State of Georgia who being duly sworn on oath says that he has resided in said State continuously ever since the 3 day of October 1892; that he is 73 years old and by occupation a farmer; that his physical condition is as follows: He has severe lung trouble, is old and worn out constitution and general health is broken down; he is now a complete physical wreck. That his property consists of the following items: household and kitchen furniture, the value of $20. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the act of December 15th 1894 and the acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year 1898. He has heretofore been a resident of Heard County and been allowed a pension for the year 1897. Mansfield Bailey, X, his mark Sworn to and subscribed before me this 5 day of January 1898. Robt G Crain, Ordinary For Applicants Heretofore allowed Pensions State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appears, Mansifield Bailey of Heard County, State of Georgia who being duly sworn says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said County and State, and has resided in said state continuously ever since the 3 day of October 1893; that he is 74 years old; that his physical condition is as follows: He has a severe lung and throat trouble and his constitution and general health is wrecked. He is greatly ematiated and his whole system has given away. That his property consists of the following items: household and kitchen furniture and cow, of the value of $25. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act of December 1894 and the acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the pension to which hs entitled for the year 1899.
