A 1st GA Reg't on 4-15-1862 in Franklin, Georgia (Heard Co) ; discharged 5-15-1865 June 22, 1906 State of Alabama, Randolph County Application for the Relief of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors To the Honorable Board of Pension Examiners of said County: Your Petitioner, B. Hammon, respectfully represents to your Honorable Board, that he is a resident citizen of Randolph County in the State of Alabama and that he resided in said State on the first day of January in 1899; that he enlisted in the service of the Confederate States, as a soldier in Company A in the First GA Regiment on the 15 day of April 1862 at Franklin, Georgia and that he was honorably discharged from such service on the 25th day of May 1865; that he did not desert the service or the Confederate States; that he is now unable to make a living by manual labor on account of a jar in head; that he is at the time of filing this application 65 years of age; that his post office address is Graham, Alabama; that he does not own property either in his own name nor that of his wife to the value of four hundred dollars; that his annual income does not exceed four hundred dollars; and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your Petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all the property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the foregoing facts, your Petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the pension rolls in the class that your Honorable Board may adjudge him to belong, that he may participate in the division of the fund provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by Act of the General Assembly approved Feb 10, 1890. Hammond On oral examination this applicant states his family consists of himself and wife who is feeble. On physical examination we find him wearing an expression of fagitue, sufffering & ?. He states that he suffers greatly with his head and chest and in consequence cannot hold out to labor. He further states that he was seriously injured during an engagement while in the service by being near a a heavy cannon when it was discharged and that his suffering has resulted from the concussion of that occasion. Also that as he advances in years his suffering becomes more intense. We recommend taht he be granted a pension 4 class. T.J. East, Joseph R. Hood, Pension Board for Randolph County, Ala. Hammond, who being by me first duly sworn, deposes and says that he is now on the pension roll of Randolph County in the Third Class; that he hereby makes application under an Act approved April 24, 1911 to be placed on the pension roll of the second class on account of his age, being at the time of making this application over the age of seventy years. He further states that he as born in Heard County, GA; that he depends solely upon his pension for support and maintenance; that he is unable to procure any other positive proof as to his age, as there is no one in this part of the county who can testify as to his birth.
