LEE, Heard County, Georgia Questions for Applicant State of Georgia, Heard County N. D. LEE of said state and county, desiring to avail himseof of the Pension Act hereby submits his proofs and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? N.D. Lee, Franklin, Heard County, Georgia 2. How long and since when have you been a resident of this state? I have been a resisdent of the state continuously since 1856. 3. When and where were you born? In the state of Alabama in 1840. 4. When and where and in what company and regiment did you enlist or serve? I enlisted in Company I 41st Regiment of Georgia Volunteers in Chattanooga in month of October 1862. 5. How long did you remain in such company and regiment? I remained in that company and regiment to close of the war in 1865. 6. For how long a period did you discharge regular military duty? Nearly three years. 7. When, where and under what circumstances were you discharged from service? I was discharged from service at Bentonville, NC at close of war 1865. 8. What is your present occupation? Farming. 9. How much can you earn gross per annum by your own exertions or labor? $25. 10. What has been your occupation since 1865? Farming. 11. Upon which of the following grounds do you bse your application for pension, viz:age and poverty, infirmity and povery or blindness and poverty? Infirmity and poverty. 12. State how long you have been in this condition that you could not earn your support; give a full and complete history of the infirmity and it's extent: I am all crippled up with rheumatism suffering from wound in the back, general debility, constitution and general health wrecked and unable to work at any labor or calling sufficient to earn a support for myself. 13. What property, effects or income do you possess and it's gross value? I have no property effects or income except a small amount of household furniture. 14. What property, effects or income did you possess in 1894, 1895, 1896, 1897, 1898 and 1899 and what disposition if any did you make of same? Nothing more than a cow and calf and some hogs. I have killed the hogs and the cow died in 1898 and since 1898 I have had nothing but household goods. 15. In what county did you reside during those years and what property did you return for taxation? in Heard County and returned this property for taxation. 16. How were you supported during the years 1898 and 1899? By what little I could do and the help from my children. 17. How much did your support cost for each of those years and what portion did you contribute thereto by your own labor or income? About $75. I contributed about 1/2. 18. What was your employment in 1898 and 1899 ;w hat pay did you receive in each year? farming. I received for my labor not more than $25. each year. 19. Have you a family; if so, who composes such family; have they a homestead? I have a family of affliected wife and two children. They are dependent on their own labor for a support and have no property. 20. Are you receiving a pension currently? I am not. N. D. January 31, 1900 Questions for Witness State of Georgia, Heard County M.A. LANE of said state and county, having been presented as a witness in support of the application of N.D. LEE for pension and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questins, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? M.A. LANE, Franklin, Heard County, Georgia 2. Are you acquainted with N.D. LEE the applicant; if so how long have you known him? I have known him since 1862. 3. Where does he reside and how long and since when has he been a resident of this state? In Heard County. He has been a resident of this state since I first knew him. 4. When, where and in what company and regiment did he enlist and how do you know this? He enlisted in Company I 41st GA Regiment at Chattanooga. I was there. 5. Were you a member of the same company and regiment? I was. 6. How long did he perform regular military duty and what do you know of his service as a Confederate soldier and the time and circumstances of his discharge from the service? He performed regular military duty for over two years to close of the war 1865. Made a good and brave soldier and was regular discharged at the close of war in 1865. 7. What property, effects or income has the applicant; give your means of knowledge: He has no property, effects or income except a small amount of household and kitchen furniture. I live near him and know his circumstances. 8. What property, effects or income did he possess in 1896, 1897, 1898, 1899 and what disposition if any did he make of same? He had nothing more during these years than he has now except cor and some hogs who died and he killed the hogs in 1898. 9. Has he conveyed any property in the last four year and if so what was it and to whom? He has not. 10. What is the applicant's occupation and physical condition? He is a farmer and crippled up with rheumatism; constitution and general health wrecked; he is now worn out. 11. Is the applicant unable to support himself by labor of any sort; if so, why? He is on account of his physical condition. 12. How was he supported during the years 1898 and 1899? By what little he could do and the help of others. 13. What portion of his support for these two years was derived from his own income and labor? Not more than one third. 14. Give a complete statement of the applicant's physical condition that entitles him to pension: He is all crippled up with rheumatism. His constitution and general health wrecied and he is worn out and unable to work at any labor or calling sufficient to earn a support for himself. M. A. January 5, 1901 For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appears, N.D. LEE from Heard County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said county and state and has resided in the state continuously ever since birth, 10 day of March 1840; that he is 59 years old and by occupation a farmer; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the states and served for the term of three years in Company I 41st Regiment of Georgia Volunteers; that his physical condition is as follows: His constitution and general health is all broken down; he is suffering from general dedbility and worn out. That his property consists of nothing. That deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act approved Dec 15, 1894 and the acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year 1901. Jan'y 4, 1904 For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions State of Georgia, Heard County Personally appears, N.D. LEE of Heard County, State of Georgia who being duly sworn on oath says that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said county and state and has resided in the state continuously ever since the __ day of birth 1840; that he is 63 years old and by occupation a farmer; that his physical condition is as follows: he is old, crippled up with rheumatism; his constitution and general health all broken down. That his property consists of the following items: Household and kitchen furtniture of the value of thirty dollars; that by reason of his physical condition and poverty he is unable to support himself by his own exertions and labor and that he receives no pension but the one herein applied for. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the act approved Dec 15, 1894 and the acts amendatory thereof and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year 1904. N.D.
