Eady, widow of Jackson Eady of Co. K 56th GA. Widow's Pension Application of 1901 State of Georgia, Heard County Questions for Applicant Mary J. Eady of said State and County desiring to avail herself of the pension allowed to indigent widows of confederate soldiers under Act of General Assembly passed in 1900, hereby submits her proofs and after being duly sworn true answers do make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? Mary J. Eady, Heard Co. GA, Centralhatchee P.O. 2. How long and since when have you been a resident of this state? Ever since 1838 a resident of Georgia. 3. When and where were you born? Born 15th September 1828 in Montgomery Co. Alabama. 4. When and where was your husband born, state his name and when were you and he married? He was born 1824 in Georgia. Jackson Eady is his name. Married January 4, 1849. 5. When and where and in what company and regiment did your husband enlist or serve during the war between the states? Spring of April or May 1862 at Franklin, Heard Co. GA, Company K 56th Regiment Georgia Volunteers. 6. How long did your husband serve in said Company and Regiment? 3 years. 7. When and where did your husband's Company and Regiment surrender and was discharged? In April, 26th day 1865 near Greensboro, NC. 8. Was your husband present at the time and place when his company and regiment surrendered? He was. 9. Not answered 10. When and where did your husband die? July 18, 1890 in Harralson County, Georgia. 11. Which of the following grounds do you base your application for pension, viz: age and poverty, infirmity and poverty or blindness and poverty? Infirmity and poverty. 12. State how long you have been in such condition that you cannot earn a support. I am paralized and have been for two years. 13. What has been your occupation since your husband's death? No occupation at all. 14. How much can you earn, gross, by your own labor? Nothing at all. 15. What property, real or personal did you possess at death of husband and of the year 1899-1900 and what disposition if any have you made of same? None. 16. What property, real or personal property do you possess? I have nothing at all. 17. In what counties did you reside in 1899 and 1900 and what property did you return for taxation? In Heard County, GA and returned nothing. 18. How have you been supported since death of husband and especially for 1899 and 1900? By children and relatives. 19. How much did your support cost for each of those years and how much did you contribute by your own labor or income? About $50. dollars and I contributed nothing. 20. What was your employment during 1899, 1900? No employment. I am paralized and confined to my room and I contributed nothing. 21. Have you a family, if so, who composes such family? Daniel of said state and county, having been presented as a witness in support of the application of Mrs. Mary J. Eady for a pension under the Act of 1900, and after being duly sworn true answers do make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? I. J. Daniel, Heard County. 2. Are you acquainted with the applicant Mrs. Mary J. Eady, and if so, how long have you known her? I have known her fifty years. 3. Where does she reside and how long and since when has she been a resident of this state? She resides in Heard Co. GA, a resident for fifty years. 4. Where and when was she born? I don't know. 5. Were you ever acquainted with her husband? I was. 6. Where did he reside in 1861? He lived in Heard County Georgia. 7. When and to whom was he married? Jan 4th 1849 and married Mary J. Mitchel. 8. When and where was he born? In 1824 in Georgia. 9. How long have you known him? About fifty years. 10. When and where did Jackson Eady enlist in the war between the states and in what company and regiment did he enlist and how do you know this? In May 1862 in Company K 56th Georgia regiment. 11. Were you a member of this same Regiment and Company? I was. 12. How long did her perform regular military duty? About three years. 13. When and where was his Company and Regiment surrendered and discharged from service? 26th day of April 1865 near Greensboro, N.C. 14. Were you with the command when it surrendered? I was. 15. Was Jackson Eady the husband of the applicant present? He was. 16. and 17. Not Answered 18. When and where die Jackson Eady die? Died in Harrolson Co. GA July 18th 1890. 19. Where did he reside at his death and how long had he been a resident of Georgia at his death? In Harrolson Co. GA. All of his life (resident of GA). 20. Not answered 21. Has the widow remained unmarried since her soldier husband's death and is now his widow? She has and is now his widow. 22. What property, effects or income has the applicant if any and how do you know this? She has no property or income. I have always lived near her. 23 and 24. What property, effects or income did the applicant have in 1899 and 1900? She had nothing. 25. What is applicant's physical condition and her chance and ability to earn a support? She is paralized, has been for two years, not able to do anything. 26. Is applicant able to earn a support at labor of any sort, if not, why? She is not. She is very old and paralized. 27. How was she supported in 1899 and 1900? By children. 28. How much did applicant contribute to her support for the last two years? Nothing. 29. Give a full and complete statement of applicant's physical condition: She is old, worn out and paralized so that she can't turn herself in bed. I. J. February 11, 1901 Affidavits of Physicians State of Georgia, Heard County Personally before me comes J.B. Wood, M.D. and O.C. Brittain, M.D., both known to me to be reputable physicians of said county, who being severally sworn say on oath that they have examined carefully Mrs. Mary J. Eady, applicant for pension, and after such personal examination, say that her physical condition is this: She is now paralyzed and confined to her bed for the past two years. Said disease has completely wrecked her general health and constitution and she is incapable to work at any labor or calling sufficient to earn a support for herself. J. B. Wood, M.D., O.C. Brittain, M.D. Sworn to and subscribed before me this 11th day of February 1901. Robt. G. Crain, Ordinary, Heard County. Ordinary's Certificate State of Georgia, Heard County I, Robt. G. Crain, Ordinary in and for said county, hereby certify that the applicant Mrs. Mary Jane ?? resides in said county and has been a bona fide resident of this state since before 1 January 1899 and that the witnesses Mr. I. J. Daniel and Doctors J.B. Wood and O.C. Brittain are of trustworthy character and that their statements are entitled to full faith and credit.
