What is your name and where do you reside? Elkane Eady, Heard County, Georgia, Enon Grove, GA. 2. Where did you reside on January 1, 1894 and how long have you been a resident of this state? Heard County, Georgia, a resident of GA from birth. 3. When and where were you born? Fayette County, born in 1830. 4. When and where and in what company and regiment did you enlist or serve? 1862 at Franklin GA company K 56 Georgia Regiment. 5. How long did you remain in such company and regiment? From the time I enlisted till the close of the war. 6. For how long a period did you discharge regular military duty? About 3 years. 7. When, where and under what circumstances were you discharged from service? I was not discharged till the close of the war in the Spring of 1865. 8. What is your present occupation? Farming 9. How much can you earn per annum by your own exertions and labor? About $25. 10. What has been your occupation since 1865? Farming 11. Upon which of the following grounds do you base your application for pension, viz; age and poverty, infirmity and poverty, or blindness and poverty? Infirmity and Blindness and Poverty. 12. Give a complete and full history of the infirmity and it's extent, and state how long you have been in such condition that you could not earn your support: About ten years. I am rupture diseased in my back, old and all broken down from disease and old age. I am nearly blind, can't see but little. 13. What property, effects or income to you possess and its gross value? Nothing barely. 3 pigs and a little household furniture. 14. What property, effects or income did you possess in 1894, 1895 and 1896 and what disposition if any did you make of same? I had a mule and some little cattle. I have eat them up or lend them out and had to go to pay debts. I returned the same a mule and some cattle , a cow and yearling. 15. In what County did you reside during those years and what property did you then return for taxation? In Heard County, the same as stated above. 16. How were you supported during the years 1895 and 1896? By what little I could do and the help of my children. They have now left me. 17. How much did your support cost for each of those years and what portion did you contribute by your own labor or income? About $70. I contributed about 1/8. 18. What was your employment during 1895 and 1896? Farming and I got a scanty living. 19. Have you a family, if so, who composes such family. Give their means of support. Have they a homestead? I have a wife, she has no means of support. She has nothing but a little house and kitchen furniture. 20. Are you receiving a pension, if so what amount and for what disability? February 3, 1897 Questions for Witness State of Georgia, Heard County I. J. Stephens of said State and County, having been presented as a witness in support of the application of Elkane Eady for pension under the Act approved December 15, 1894, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? I. J. Stephens, Franklin, Heard County Georgia. 2. Are you acquainted with Elkane Eady the applicant, if so, how long have you known him? I have known him for fifty years. 3. Where does he reside and how long has he been a resident of this state? He lives in Heard County and has been a resident of state since I first knew him. 4. Do you know of his having served in the Confederate Army or the Georgia Militia? How do you know this? I know of his service in the Confederate Army. I was with him during his term of service. 5. When, where and in what company and regiment did he enlist? He enlisted in Company K 56th GA Regiment May 1862 from Heard County, GA. 6. Were you a member of the same company and regiment? I was. 7. How long did he perform regular military duty and what do you know of his service as a confederate soldier and the time and circumstances of his discharge from the service: he discharged regular military duty for three years, made a good and brave soldier and was honorably discharged from service at the close of the war in 1865. 8. What property, effects or income has the applicant? He has no property, effects or income except a small amount of household goods. 9. What property, effects or income did the applicant possess in 1895 and 1896 and what disposition if any did he make of same? He had a small amount of personal ? during these years but the same has been sold to pay debts. 10. What is the applicant's occupation and physical condition? He is a farmer. He is suffering from impaired eyesight, rupture and from general debility, constitution and general health all broken down. 11. Is the applicant unable to support himself ny labor of any sort, if so why? He is on account of his physical condition. 12. How was he supported during the years 1895 and 1896? By what little he could do and help of his children who have now left him. 13. What portion of his support for these two years was derived from his own income or labor? Only a small amount as he was not able to work. 14. Give a full and complete statement of the applicant's physical condition that entitles him to pension under the Act of December 14, 1894: He is suffering from impaired eyesight, reputres, from general debility and now worn out constitution and general health a complete wreck and is unabgle to support himself by labor of his own. Affadavit of Physicians State of Georgia, Heard County Personally came before me, O.C. Brittain and J.R. Daniel, both known to me as reputable physicians of said county who being severally sworn, say on oath that they have examined carefully Elkane Eady, applicant for pension, and after such personal examination say that his precise physical condition is as follows: He has hernia and his eyesight greatly impaired. Cataract over his eyes and his general health and constitution is now a wreck and is old and worn out and totally unable for farm work. We further say on oath that the physical condition of applicant renders him unable to labor at any work or calling sufficient to earn a support for himself. J.R. Daniel, M.D., O.C. January 7, 1898 For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions State of Georgia, County of Heard Personally appears, Elkane Eady of Heard County, State of Georgia who being duly sworn says on oath that he has resided in the State continuously ever since the ? 3 day of January 1830, that he is 67 years old and by occupation a farmer; that by reason of his physical condition and poverty he is unable to support himself by his own exertion and labor and that he makes application for the pension that he is entitled to for the year 1898. Elkane Eady, X, his mark January 1900, January 1901 and January 1902, January 1903, 1904, 1905 and 1906 Power of Attorney State of Georgia, Heard County I, Elkane Eady hereby authorize R.G. Crain of Heard County, GA to receive and receipt for the pension allowed and request that he remit same to me at Franklin, GA by his check. Elkane Eady, X, his mark June 26, 1907 Widow's Pension Application of Amanda Eady of Heard County, GA, widow of Elcane Eady Widow's Affadavit State of Georgia, County of Heard Personally came, Mrs. Amanda Eady, who says on oath that she is the widow of Elkane Eady to whom, in the County of Heard, State of Georgia, she was married on the 22 day of Jan'y 1861. That she remained his wife up to the 16 day of November 1906 at which time he died and that she has not since married. At the time of his death he was a resident of Heard County in said State of Georgia and was on the Indigent Pension roll of the State of Georgia, having been allowed a pension of $60. per annum on account of being a soldier in Company K 56th Regiment Georgia Volunteers. What affliction have you and how dies it affect you? I have rheumatism. My constitution and general health is wrecked and am worn out. What have you been doing to earn a support since 1st of January 1900? Nothing. Lived with my husband but could only do my housework. What property or effects had you on 1st January 1900? No property, effects or income. What have you acquired since and what income have you now? Nothing and have no income now. What disposition have you made of any property since January 1900 and at what price and or what purpose? Have disposed of nothing and only have a small amount of household furniture. Deponent further says that she is now a resident of Heard County and has continuously resided in the State of Georgia since the day of her birth in 1837. She applies for the pension provided by the Act of General Assembly approved December 18, 1900. Amanda Eady, X, her mark Sworn to and subscribed before me this 26th day of June 1907. Robt. G. Crain, Ordinary of Heard County June 26, 1907 Affadavit for Witnesses State of Georgia, County of Heard Personally comes, D.E. Cato, E.J.R. Williama and G.A. Crain, known to me to be reputable and truthful persons, who say on oath that from his own personal knowledge, Mrs. Amanda Eady who made the foregoing affidavit is the widow of Elkane Eady who died in Heard County and State of Georgia on the 16th dayof November 1906 and that she has not since married. That she became his wife on the 22nd day of January 1861 and so remained up to the time of his death, and that she has resided in this state continuously since her birth. With what afflictions does she suffer? She suffering from rheumatism, constitution and general health worn out. What property and income had she on Jan 1, 1900? She has no property effects or income and had nothing on Jan 1, 1900. How was she supported in 1900 and 1901? By her husband who drew a pension of $60. from state. D.E. Cato, E.J.R. Williams, G.A.
