November, 1844, 61 years 3. When and where were you born? 1844 in Heard County 4. When and where and in what company and regiment did you enlist or serve? In 1862 at Stone Mountain, Ga. Johnson Company "Co. C". Capors Battalion of Artilery 5. How long did you remain in such company and regiment? Close of the war at Appomattock Courthouse in 1865 and was discharged at Appomattocks 6. When and where was you company and regiment surrendered and discharged? At Appomattocks in 1865 7. Were you present with your company and regiment when it was surrendered? Yes 8. If not present, state specifically and clearly where you were, when you left your command, for what cause and by whose authority? (no answer given) 9. I was in possession of one hundred acres as my wife property, prior to 1900, she pays the taxes 15. Where does he reside, and how long and since when he been a resident of this State? Heard county, Ga all his life 4. When, where and in what company and regiment did he enlist and how do you know? 1862 at Stone Mountain, Ga 5. Were you a member of the same company and regiment? Yes 6. How long did he perform regular military duty? till close of war 7. When and where was his command surrendered? April 1865 at Appomatox C H, Va 8. Were you present when it surrendered? Yes 9. Daniel, both known to me as reputable physicians of said county, who being severally sworn, say on oath that they have examined carefully Andrew J. Smith, applicant for pension under Section 1254, Code, and after such personal examination, say that his precise physical condition is as follows: On close examination I find Andrew J. Smith Sufferting from Amyloid (?) diyeneration of The Kidneys & Also from nervous Disprepsis & from reumisthnia not able to do manual labor. And that we have no interst in said pension being allowed. Crain, Ordinary, in and for said County, hereby certify that the applicant, A. J. Smith, resides in said County, and has been a bona fide resident of this State since the ______ day of Jan'y 1894 and that the witnesses, viz: G. W. Hammond and J. R. Daniel are of trustworthy character, and that their statements are entitled to full faith and credit. I further certify that before answering the foregoing questions the applicant and each witness took the oath hereon prescribed, and that the full text of the affidavits was read to the applicant and witnesses before same was signed. I further certify that the tax digests of Heard County show that applicant returned for taxation in his name in 1901 nothing Dollars of property. And in 1902 nothing Dollars of property; in 1903 nothing Dollars of property; in 1904 nothing Dollars of property; in 1905 nothing Dollars of property. George W. Johnson This company was made up of men from the Stone Mountain area of Gwinnett and Dekalb Counties, and several men were from Heard County. Smith, Andrew Jackson, Pvt., Enlisted 4/28/62, Franklin, 11/1/64 listed as deserted, Surrendered Appomattox 4/9/65. PR Applied Heard Co. 8/08. Born Heard Co. 11/44. Enlisted Stone Mountain 1862, discharged at surrender at Appomattox. A farmer supported by his wife. Witness W.P. Brown of Dekalb Co. stated that they were both present at the surrender.
