Dunlap, a Private in Capt William Dent's Company, Col. William Wood's Regiment of Georgia Mounted Volunteers in Indian Wars Wm. O. Dunlap served June 4 to Aug 18, 1836 Franklin, Georgia Sept 3rd 1836 I hereby certify that William O. Dunlap, Private, has been three months engaged in the late War against the hostile Creek Indians during which time he has performed every duty faithfully that has been rquired of him as a soldier and he is now hereby Honorably Discharged from the service of the United States. Given under my hand day and date above. Wm. B.W. Dent, Captain of the Heard Volunteers, Georgia Bounty Land Claim December 1850 State of Alabama, Coosa County On this second day of December A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty, personally appeared before me Isaac W. Suttle Judge of Probate duly authorized to administer oaths within and for the County and State aforesaid, William O. Dunlap, age thirty eight years, a resident of Coosa County in the State of Alabama and being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical William O. Dunlap who as a Private in the company commanded by Captain William B. W. Dent in the Georgia Regiment of Volunteers commanded by Col. William Wood in the Creek Indian War in 1836. That he volunterred at Heard County, Georgia on or about the fifteenth day of February A.D. 1836 for the term of three months and continued in actual service in said War for the term of three months and was honorably discharged at Franklin, Georgia on the 2rd day of September A.D. 1836 as will appear by the written certificarte of discharge hereunto attached. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States passed September 28, 1850. William O. Dunlap Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written and I hereby certify that I believe the said William O. Dulap to be the identical man who served as aforesaid and that he is of the age above stated. I. W. Other pages indicate that he sold this land.) Second Bounty Land Claim, August 1855 State of Alabama, County of Coosa On this 4th day of August A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Five, personally appeared beofre me a Judge of Probate within and for the County and State aforesaid, William O. Dunlap, aged forty two years, a resident of Coosa County in the State of Alabama, who being duly worn according to law, declares that he is the identical William O. Dunlap who was a Private in the Company commanded by Captain William Dent in the Georgia Regiment of Volunteers commanded by Colonel William Wood, in the War with the Creek Indians in the year 1836 for the term of three months and continued in actual service in said war for fourteen days; that he has heretofore made application for Bounty Land under the Act of September the 3rd 1850 and received a Land Warrant for forty acres, which he has since legally disposed of and can not now return. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional Bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the Act approved the 3rd day of March 1855. He also declares that he has never applied for nor reveived under this or any other act of Congress any Bounty Land Warrant except the one above mentioned. William O. Dunlap We, William E. Murchison and John S. Bentley, residents of Coosa County in the State of Alabama, upon our oaths declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by William O. Dunlap in our presence and that we believe from the appearance and statements of the applicant that he is the identical person he represents himself to be. William E. Murchison, John S. Bentley The foregoing declarations and affidavit was sworn to and subscribed before me on the day and year above written and I certify that I know the affiants to be credible persons, that the claimant is the person he represents himself to be and that I have no interest in this claim. May 9, 1873 State of Alabama, Elmore County On the 9th day of May 1873 before me W.E. Dennis a Judge of a Court of record for and within said County, personally came, William O. Dunlap, age 60 years, who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical William O. Dunlap who as a private in the company commanded by Capt Dent in the Regiment commanded by Col. WOod in the War with the Creek Indians; that he volunteered in Heard County, Geo. for three months about last May 1836 and continued in actual service over fourteen days and was honorably discharged at West Point Geo. about 1 Sept 1836 for which service he received about twenty one years ago a land warrent for 40 acres the No. of which is he inable now to state. That he made one other applications has has received no other warrant and makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the benefit of the Act of Mar 3, 1855. He constitutes and appoints G.R. Rose of Greenville Butler Co. Ala his atty. to prosecute this claim and receive whatver may be due him in the ? I, William O. Dunlap, do dolemnly swear that I will support, protect and defend the Constitution, and government of the United States against all enemies whether domestic or foreign, and that I will bear true faith, allegiance and loyalty to the same any ordinance, resolution or law of any state constitution or legistlature to the contrary, notwithstanding and further that I do this with a full determination pledge and purpose without any mental reservation or evasion whatsoever so helpme God. Dunlap Oct 14, 1892 Indian Wars Pension, Act of July 27, 1892 Declaration of Survivor for Pension who served between 1832 and 1842, Inclusive State of Alabama, County of Elmore On this 14th day of October A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety Two, personally appeared, before a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, William O. Dunlap, aged 78 3/4 years, a resident of Buyck County of Elmore, State of Alabama, who being by me first duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: that he is a citizen of the United States and is the identical person who served under the name of William O. Dunlap as a Private in the company commanded by Captain Wm. W. Dent, in the Battalion of 3 companies 1 of Cavalry and 2 of Infantry, commanded by General James Wood in the Creek Indian War of 1836. That he was mustered into the United States service at Girard, Alabama near Colubus GA by General Sanford of General Scott's Staff on or about the 4th day of June 1836. That he enlisted at Franklin Heard Co. GA on or about the 21st day of May A.D. 1836 for the term of 3 months during the war and was honorably discharged at West Point, Troup Co. GA on the 19th day of August A.D. 1836. That is is now married; that the maiden name of his wife was Lavina Tullis to whom he was married at Jacob Waits in the State of Georgia on the 18th day of January A.D. 1838; that his wife is now living. That in support and proof of his right to pension he will hereafter submit such evidence as may be required under the rules and regulations prescribed by the Secretary of the Interior. That he has heretofore applief for and received a 40 acre land warrant. That since his discharge from said service he has resided as follows to wit: In Heard and Troup Counties, Georgia till close of 1843 and in Coosa and Elmore Counties, Alabama ever since. That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of July 27th 1892. That he hereby appoints with full power of substitution and revocation, Wm. W. Dudley, Washington, D.C. his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim. Dunlap the claimant sign his name to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with him for twenty five years and thirty four years respectively, that he is the identical person he represents himself to be and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. Vol. War 1836 On this 8th day of July A.D. 1893, personally appeared before me W.S. Perrick Justice Peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, W.O. Dunlap, age 80 years, a resident of Buckyville in the County of Elmore, and State of Alabama whose post office address is Buyckville, Ala is well kown to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declaredin relation to aforesaid case as follows: That he was a Private in Captain Dent's Battalion Alabama volunteers in the Indian War of 1836. That he served in said War two and half months that he has made application for pension on 4th February 1893, that this is the only aplication he has made. William O. Dunlap Claimant's General Affadavit State of Alabama, County of Elmore In the matter of the Pension Claim of Wm. O. Dunlap, Dent's Battn. Indian WarsOn this 29th On this 6th day of March A.D. 1893, personally appeared before Wm. S. Perrick a Justice Peace in and for the aforesaid county duly authorized to administer oaths, W.O. Dunlap age 80 years a resident of Buyck in the County of Elmore, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That he was in the Military Service of the Unitd States in the Creek Indian War of 1836 and enlisted some time in April 1836 and was discharged about the 19th day of August 1836. He says he was never in the Naval Service of the United States. He says he belonged to a Volunteer Company of Infanty of which Captain W. W. Dent was Capatin. Isaac Stevens was a Lieutenant and ? Whittaker was a Sargeant. He has forgotten now the name and number of the Company. He says that Alex Peddy, Daniel Whittaker, Robert Dawson, Pleas Hancock, Ben George, Wiley Cohorn, Jefferson Edwards and Henry Wright were in the same Company with him. He says that one William Wood was the Colonel of the Battalion to which he belonged. Calhoun was Major. James Wood was General. William O. Dunlap Affiants/Witnesses: J.E. Williams, H.L. Bullard Claiman't General Affadavit State of Alabama, County of Elmore In the matter of the Pension Claim of Wm. O. Dunlap, Pvt in Capt Dent's Company in Indian War of 1836 On this 29th day of July A.D. 1893, personally appeared before me W.S. Perrick, Justice Peace in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths, William O. Dunlap aged 80 years, a resident of Buyckville Beat in the County of Elmore and State of Alabama, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declared in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: He says he served as a Private in the Company of William W. Dent which was a Company of Infantry. He says he enlisted at Franklin, Heard County, Georgia. He says his recollection is that Capt Dent's Company was Georgia Volunteer Company. He says he never served in any other Company in the Indian War of 1836. He says he does not recollect the number of letter of Capt Dent's Company or the regiment wo thich his company belonged. He says his recollection is that Capt Dent Company belonged to a Battalion but he says he has forgotten the number of name of same. He says that one Major Calhoun and one Col. William Wood were in some way connected with the command to which he belonged. He further states on oath that the statements contained in this affidavit were written in his presence and from his oral statements to the person preparing the same affidavit on the 29th day of July 1893 at Wetumpker, Alabama and that in making the same he did not use and was not prompted by any written or ? statements or recital prepared or dictated by another person. William O. Dunlap (Claimant) July 29, 1893 Claimant's Affadavit State of Alabama, County of Elmore In the matter of the Claim of William O. Dunlap On this 29th day of July 1893, personally appeared, William O. Dunlap the claimant who being duly sworn declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: That at the time of his enlistment which was sometime in March 1836 he started with his company on a march on lst day of May, 31st 1836. At time of his enlistment he was 23 years and five months old. He says that he was born in Lancaster District South Carolina. He says at time of enlistment he was six feet three inches high of florid complection and had brown hair, blue eyes. His occupation at enlistment was that of farmer. The date of his enlistment was sometime in March 1836. The place of enlistment was Franklin, Heard County, Georgia. He was discharged August 19th 1836 at West Point Troup County Georgia. He says he received a land warrant at Wetumpka Alabama but does not recollect the number of same. He says he was living when he received it at Coosa County, Ala 12 miles north of Wetumpka, Alabama. Robert M. Cherry was his attorney who processed the land warrant for him. His address was Wetumpka ALabama. He says he has no paper writing bearing his signature near the time of his service or enlistement at hand at this time. He further states on oath that the statements contained in the above affidavit were written in his presence from his oral statements to the person preparing the same who is Wm.S . Perrick, that said oral statements were made on the 29th day of July 1893 at Wetumpka Alabama and that in making the same he did not use and was not aided or prompted by any written or printed statements or recital, prepared or dictated by any other person. He says he sold his land warrant to his brother Thomas C. Dunlap who lived in Rockford Coosa County, Alabama. William O. Dunlap (signature of claimant) Finance Division, Bureau of Pensions Indian Wars Pensioner Dropped Certificate No. 2827 Pensioner: William O. Dunlap Soldier: Pvt., Capt Wm. Dent's Co. GA Vols Sir, I have the honor to report that the above named pensioner who was paid a pension at the rate of $8. to August 1899, has been dropped because of death. Died Oct 26, 1899.
