JOSIE HENDRICK FORMER HEARD COUNTIAN DIES IN ATLANTA SUNDAY Mrs. Josie Daniel Hendrick, 80, widow of the late A.G. Hendrick, died Sunday at her home in Atlanta, after several years of feebleness and sufering. She was reared in Heard County and lived near Franklin all of her life until about 35 years ago. She was a consecrated member of the Methodist church, a woman of sweet and lovable nature, highly educated and one who numbered her friends by her acquaintances. The funeral was held in Atlanta with two large truckoads of lovely flowers to bank the casket and surroundings and to be brought to the graveside in Newnan where the interment was made in the family lot Tuesday afternoon. Surviving children are: Misses Emmie Sue and Grace Hendrick, W.A. Hendrick, Dr. A.G. Hendrick, Kenny and Almon Hendrick, Mrs. Gus Lipford and Mrs. Paul Barrett, Mrs. Lipford being now the only member of the family residing in Franklin. Messrs. J.L. and Quillian Daniel are nephews. ______ Mr. Clifford Bell and Miss Jimmie Caswell, two of Franklin's popular and esteemed neighbors, silently stole away Sunday and were joined in wedlock at the Franklin Methodist parsonage by Rev. J.C. Adams. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Caswell and the groom the son of Mr. and Mrs. I.F. Bell. Their many friends are showering congratulations on them and wishing life's best for their happy and prosperous future. ___ WARESVILLE Community News Elton and Mrs. Arnett of Miamai, announce the birth of a son. __ Grady and Mrs. Arnett from Montgomery, James and Mrs. Slay from Columbus, Robert and Mrs. Drummond from Montgomery and Nolen Arnett from Miami, with other relatives, attended the birthday dinner of E.S. Arnett on Sunday. __ Sorry to say that Mrs. Grady Pooge is still in a very serious condition. __ W.F. and Mrs. Williamson and C.F. are visiting relatives in Tennessee. __ BRUSHY CREEK Community News Leonard amd Mrs. Toney announce the birth of a son. __ James and Mrs. Nelms announce the birth of a son. __ Miss Frances Merrill of Centralhatchee and Mr. Quillian Gladney of Centralhatchee and East Point, were joined in wedlock Saturday night, June 29th. Miss Merrill is the oldest daughter of Mr. Young Merrill of Centralhatchee. The groom is the son of Mr. Jim Gladney also of Centralhatchee. Hosts of friends wish the happy couple a long and successful life. __ W.W. Noble and family of Opelika, Ala., visited J.T. and Mrs. Chatman the past weekend. Mrs. Noble and the children are spending the week with them. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Marshall McConnel of Montgomery, Ala., visited relatives here Sunday. __ Mrs. Tipper of Birmingham, Ala., is visiting her niece, Mrs. Ben G. Hill. __ GLENN Community News Mrs. Mollie Hilt Salima of Orlando, Fla., accompanied by two daughters, spent Thursday with Mrs. Leonard Whitley. Mrs. Salima is the grandddaughter of the late Jack Brewer, of Glenn, having lived here 39 years ago. __ Misses Nina and Ethel Kitchens of Double Head, Ala., spent Sunday with their sister, Mrs. Dovie Adams. __ HOME NEWS, SUGGESTIONS, GOSSIP Mr. S.A. Napier and son Ralph, have just returned from Summerville, where they attended the funeral of Mr. Napier's 93 year old mother. ___ Misses Joyce and Louise Mickle spent the weekend in LaGrange with Miss Edna Brannon. Miss Joyce has accepted a teacher's place in the school at Cohutta. __ Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Owensby left Tuesday for Jacksonville, Fla., to spent two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Dennis. They expect to visit Miami and other Florida east coast cities while away. __ Mr. Bill Lipham, near Waresville, brought us Tuesday the first cotton bloom. It was a husky one and red, indicating that it bloomed July 1st. Mr. G.E. Daniel, Salem, also sent one that bloomed July 1st. Numbers of others report blooms. __ Mr. John Oswald has joined the CCC enrollees and has been assigned temporarily to Chipley. __ Mr. Dan Johnson, Soperton, spent the weekend with Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Noles. He was formerly a warden here when the highway worked a large stockade of convicts. __ Mr. S.R. Heard who recently moved to Newnan, is the new carrier for the Newnan- Franklin star mail route. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of July 12, 1940 J. J. Harry's home near Glenn was a scene of merriment Sunday July 7th, despite the downpour of rain. The occasion was the celebration of Mr. Harry's 77th birthday July 5th. At noon the dining table was filled with delicious eats brought the children and grandchildren. Those present were: J.J. and Mrs. Harry, Walter Harry and family, W.J. and Mrs. Harry, Mrs. H.D. Sheppard, Mrs. A.H. Sheppard and family, Rev. Olin Sheppard and family of Glenn; C.H. and Mrs. Russell, John Tom Russell, Mrs. Sara Wilson, Herman and Ambrose Harry of Lanett, Ala., Earl and Mrs. Wilkerson, Hollis Sheppard, Miss Mamie Waldrep and Miss Oleta Harry of Roanoke, Ala; Mrs. W.S. Porter and chldren of Savannah; W.L. Ogletree and family of LaGrange; Gay Mathews and family of Texas, and D.S. and Mrs. Harry of Waresville. ______ CORINTH Community News On the occasion of their 40th anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Homer W. Darden entertained at an informal tea Sunday afternoon, June 30th. Receiving with them were their children, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hosson of Knoxville, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Williams of Anniston, Ala., Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Meadows of Vidalia, and Welborn Darden of Atlanta. A profusion of varicolored dahlias and gladioli were used throughout the house. The lace covered dining table was centered with a large silver bowl of garden flowers in pastel colors. Punch was served by Misses Emily Orr of Macon, Jane and Betty Mattox of Hogansville. Between the hours of four and six the host of friends and relatives from Hogansville, Corinth, LaGrange, West Point, Newnan, Parrot and Atlanta called. ___ MT. PLEASANT Community News Glynn Harris left Monday last for the CCC Camp. ___ Andrew Gore and family of Walnut Hill, spent Sunday with Lee and Mrs. Hill. __ Mrs. Zed Nelms and daughter Shirley, spent Saturday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gibson in LaGrange. __ HOME NEWS, SUGGESTIONS, GOSSIP Mrs. Mary Lou Taylor of Griffin, is spending awhile with her sister, Mrs. W.H. Miller. __ Supt. C.K. Burroughs returned Wednesday after a month's stay and treatment at the Veteran's Hospital in Atlanta, much improved and feeling himself now in perfect health after a minor operation and a long rest. __ The many friends of Dr. C.M. Mickle will be delighted to learn that he is improving after a recent serious illness and amputation of a leg at Roanoke Hospital. ___ Mrs. C.W. Bledsoe is at Georgia Baptist Hospital, Atlanta, for treatment. __ Steer Lost - - White face, weight about 350 to 400 pounds. Disappeared from Ira Dean's pasture about July 1st. Reward for recovery.
