He ws born in Heard County January 31, 1918. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Arrington Hardy, one son, Jackie; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Hardy, of Simpson; two brothers, Dimmock Hardy of Centralhatchee, and Buren Hardy, of Simpson; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Lee Eley of Centralhatchee, Mrs. Clyde Moody of Cullman, Ala, Mrs. Travis Bailey of Simpson and Mrs. B.B. Taylor of Newnan. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from New Springs Church with Rev. Oscar Sheats officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. __ MT. PLEASANT COMMUNITY NEWS Tilman Cooley and family of New York, visited his grandmother Mrs. Nicie Cooley last week. Linton Cooley, John Gray and family visited relatives in Carrollton Sunday. _____ MIDDLEBROOK'S X - ROADS Community News Mrs. Joe Flournoy of Simpson is visiting her brother J.T. Chatman. Mrs. G.C. Middlebrooks and Mrs. J. T. Chatman are on the sick list. Misses Inez Chatman and Evelyn Joiner from Atlanta were the weekend guests of J.T and Mrs. Chatman. __ HOME NEWS, SUGGESTIONS, GOSSIP Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Gentry spent the weekend with relatives in Newnan. __ The infant of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Bruce was severely scalded Wednesday when it overturned a vessel of boiling starch upon itself. Though painful it is understood the burns are not serious. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, November 8, 1940 TEXAS Community News This community was made sad to hear of the death of Jim McDowell of Akron, Ohio, last week. Jim was born and reared in this community and his family also; they have our sympathy. __ Mrs. C.M. Mickle has been in Roanoke Hospital for the last week, but is back at home some better. __ LEGAL NOTICE - - Administration Georgia, Heard County To all whom it may concern: J.C. Arrington, deputy inspector for the department of revenue for the counties of Heard, Carroll, Troup and Coweta, destroyed five illicit distilleries during last week, ranging in capacity from 60 to 1000 gallons each. He captured and destroyed 20 during the month of October. __ Mrs. O.D. Purgason celebrated her birthday Sunday by spreading dinner in the yard at her home. Awbrey and Mr. Wilson Awbrey spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Awbrey in Roanoke, Ala. ___ Mr. J.W. Ray, LaGrange, spent Thursday last week with his sister, Mrs. J.J. Arrington. Mr. Ray was born in Franklin on November 7, 1865 and hale and active determined to spend his 75th birthday at the old home town. Most of his life has been spent in Heard county and much of it has been spent in Franklin, where he was in business a number of years and also served a number of years as clerk superior court. No man has more friends in Franklin and they are always delighted to see him, only regretting that he does not come oftener and stay longer. __ Some strange men acting suspiciously at Mr. G.B. Daniel's place a few night ago were driven off by Mr. Daniel. Every movement pointed to a hold-up it is said. Mr. Daniel recognized at least one of the strangers who has a criminal and hold-up record. __ Lieut. Chas. C. McCutchen, commander of a large CCC Camp in north Alabama, spent Armistice Day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.T. McCutchen. His wife could not come with him, being called at the same time to Miami, Fla., on account of the serious illness of her aged mother, Mrs. Sara F. Cooley who has been sick. __ Jim Thomaston and wife of Opelika, Ala., spent the weekend with Milton Caswell family. __ FROLONA Community News Glad to report Mrs. L.F. Noles is rapidly improving; also Will Thaxton has returned home from hospital and is doing fine. __ James Robinson of Lanett, Ala, visited his Aunt, Mrs. Melvin Johnson, Sunday last. __ BRUSHY CREEK Community News Sam Toney has been on the sick list for the past two weeks but is some better now. __ Leonard Toney has treated his family to a new radio and also a new sewing machine. __ HOME NEWS, GOSSIP Dr. and Mrs. Fred Simonton of LaFayette, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Simonton this week. __ Mrs. Edwin Cauthen and son of Leesburg, Fla., are spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. G.J.
