But sweet memories linger still of happy days of the past, What a big place you did fill, but you are getting your rest at last. Sometimes I wish you were here to see the wonders of the day, Things you said would be, are coming true every day. I have dreams of your dear face, since you left us, of meeting at the old home gate, just as it used to be. When you first went away, I rambled alone with heavy heart, Striving day by day to do my part. I am glad you do not know of all our sorrow, How the stormy winds blow, and the tempests of tomorrow. Things are happening so fast with us all, Too soon the days fly by and night begins to fall. The following verses are to me stepping stones, Step by step I want to be coming closer to you and home. Watch my own step, look all about, With clear mind and ready hands, help others sin to blot out, Heed our master's Command. Give back a smile for every frown, Yes it's hard to do, But I'll not let the devil hold me down, and add sorrow to his crew. Your prayers are with me day by day, Your dear face I can see every step of my way. May God keep your soul at rest, dear one, In that beautiful home so fair, Some day I shall hope to come and meet you on the golden stair.
