Daniel of Cedartown announce the marriage of their daughter Emily Jean to John Greer. Miss Daniel formerly lived in Franklin and from both maternal and paternal ancestry comes from families prominent in this section. Mr. Greer is connected with Polk County as assistant county agent. __ Mrs. Ora Boggs of Bowdon, announces the marriage of her daughter Mary John to Hollis Chilton Wortham. The marriage took place March 30th. __ CENTRALHATCHEE Community News Otis Hardegree had a narrow escape Saturday last when he had finished a well at L.T. Lane's. Tools were being drawn out when a pick fell back on his head. Five stiches were taken on the wound. __ A.C. and Mrs. Adams announce the arrival of another daughter. Also recently, Philip and Mrs. Shelnutt another daughter and Ben and Mrs. Eley Jr., another son. __ Here's to Editor James J. Thomasson of the Carroll County Times who on Sunday last, celebrated his 90th birthday while ona trip to the National Editoral Association meeting in Jacksonville, Fla., and then made a complete Florida tour with the national editors. He is among the best known and ablest editors of the state, having served his county and state for 43 years and a number years in Arkansas prior to coming back to Georgia. He has 55 years to his credit as an editor and has some 16 years on us as to age, but the Editor of the News and Banner finished his 57th year as editor on February 1, 1941. Both of us were born in Heard County. __ HOME NEWS, SUGGESTIONS, GOSSIP Mr. F.A. Caswell was quite severely burned a few days ago when his clothing caught fire while he was burning trash on his farm. __ Mr. Bert Davis brought us this week a number of very old copies of the Franklin News and of The News and Banner. We appreciate them. We shall highly appreciate friends sending us any old copies of the paper they may have, as our files and office have been twice burned. __ Mr. Gay Mathews is doing fine after an operation the first of the week for appendicitis. Mr. Wesley Cooper is looking after the furniture store. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, May 9, 1941 A TRIBUTE TO MOTHER On the night of Feb 20, 1941, the death angel visited the home of Mr. A.J. Garnett and took away the sweet spirit of his loving wife, Mrs. Garnett. She was the oldest daughter of the late W.A. Lipham of Frolona, GA. Besides her husband she leaves 3 (?) sons and one daughter: Mrs. Ludie Lancaster of Memphis, Tenn; Sanders Brazeal of Anniston, Ala; Jim, John and Lynn Brazeal of Franklin; two brothers, Buddie and S.C. Lipham of Georgianna, Ala; Two sisters, Mrs. John Thaxton of Frolona; Mrs. Ida Sills of Texas. Mother was born Sept 8, 1868. Her remains were laid to rest in New Spring cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Oscar Sheets with Lewis & Lipford in charge. Mother has gone and left us here on earth we's see her no more; she has crossed the dark river of death and awaits us on the other shore. We miss her loving, tender care, we miss her everywhere; our hearts bowed down with grief and pain as we look at mother's vacant chair....... Her Son and Wife, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Brazeal ________ Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Kent, Columbus, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. N.A. Rogers. __ Mr. J.W. Gentry has been quite ill for the past ten days but apparently slowly improving. __ CORINTH Community News Miss Margaret Jackson and Mr. Lofley Smith were married Sunday. The bride is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Jackson and has lived in Corinth all of her life. Mr. Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Smith who have lived here for a number of years. Mr. Smith is stationed at Fort Benning for the present time. __ Mrs. John A. Lipsey left Monday for Birmingham where she will spend a few days before going to Steens. Miss., for the summer. __ Joe and Mrs. Mitchell have named their new little daughter Rachel Ophelia. __ HOME NEWS, GOSSIP The State law requires all mule and horse-drawn vehicles to carry a light visible from all directions, after dark. The state patrol is strictly enforcing that rule. __ Mr. H.B. Addy, Greenville, announces the engagement of his daughter, Aida Lois to Alton Parker Lane of Franklin. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, May 16, 1941 There are only 60 survivors of the Confederate Army left in Georgia, according to state pension rolls for May. __ STATE LINE Community News Elmer Adamson of Fort Bragg. N.C. was the weekend guest of A.J. and Mrs. Adamson. __ Render and Mrs. Barber are all smiles over a son. __ Leo and Mrs. Shapiro of Shawmut, Ala; Mrs. Edna Brumbelo and children of Roanoke, Ala. R.W. and Mrs. O'Neal spent Sunday at Graham, Ala. __ HOME NEWS, GOSSIP Mr. and Mrs. Ed Settles, Winder, Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Etchison and Mr. Gibson Etchison, Fairfax, Ala, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Paschal. __ The Otis Kirk home near town was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon last, catching from a defective flue. Most the household goods of Mrs. Costley it is said, were saved. __ DIED - - Mr. R.J. Davis, 78, former Heard countian but for many years prominent businesman and baner of Greenwood, Ark., died May 2nd. The interment was May 4th when a great concourse of friends and relatives attended the lovely funeral. Mr. Davis was a brother of the late John G. Davis and was a visitor here last summer. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, May 23, 1941 Rob and Mrs. Moore of Hogansville spent Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. Lawton Wilson. __ Mrs. R.L. Awbrey spent the weekend with her sister, Mrs. Dave Manley, at her girlhood home at Mason. __ Mrs. Sackie Green and children celebrated her birthday at her old home at Paran on the fourth Sunday in April. All her children were present. __ Turner Holder recently visited his children in south Georgia. __ Owing to illness at the office of the News and Banner, the news this week is scant. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, May 30, 1941 J.B. FAVER DIES AT LAFAYETTE, ALABAMA Joe B. Faver, 68, died at his home at LaFayette, Ala., Friday last, and was buried at LaFayette Sunday following. He was a native of Heard county and resided here all his life until a few months ago when he removed to Alabama. Surviving are: his widow, 2 sons and 2 daughter; E.G. Faver, Vienna, GA; J. Earl Faver; Mrs. Render Ward and Mrs. Tommie Bagwell, Atlanta. ___ GLENN Community News Watson and Mrs. Gambol of Charleston, S.C. visited Jim and Mrs. Gambol several days the past week. __ Mrs. Lula Butler and daughter Lillian of LaGrange were visitors of Mrs. Jim B. Crockett on Sunday. __ Our community was saddened Saturday by the death of Mr. Jim Crenshaw. He had been confined to his bed for several months. He was a good neighbor, a devoted husband and father. __ LOCAL NEWS, GOSSIP Mr. Bradley Arrington, Atlanta, is spending the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Arrington. __ Mrs. A.J. Huckaba of Rockalo is satisfactorily improving after severel bruises sustained some days ago when she was thrown from a door that opened in an automobile in which she was riding. __ Mr. Virgil Bledsoe has accepted a position with McDougald Construction company in Macon where he expects to move in a few days. __ Mrs. O.M.
