Loftin, 68, prominent Carrollton merchant and vice president of the Carrollton Hardware company, died Friday at his home on Spring street after an illness of several months. __ T.A. Ellis, the court Ordinary of Coweta county, died unexpectedly last week. A special election will be held June 28th to fill the unexpired term, with several candidates already announced. MT. PLEASANT Community News Mrs. Evie Davis is spending some time with her daughter, Mrs. Winnie Stephens and family near Enon Grove. __ Bob and Mrs. Moon spent Sunday with the latter's parents, Jim and Mrs. Boggus. Reba returned with them to Hiram, GA. __ STATE LINE Community News Otis and Mrs. O'Neal attended the reunion at Dora Yarbrough's near Franklin on Sunday. __ Mrs. Render Barber spent several day with her parents, Glin and Mrs. O'Neal. __ LEGAL NOTICE to COMPEL TITLES Georgia, Heard County M.S. Mooney, having applied to the Ordinary by petition asking that Mrs. J.W. Phillips as administratrix of the estate of Mrs. E.M. Middlebrooks, deceased, late of said county, be required to make to him a deed to the following described property: That tract or parcel of land lying and being in the 939th district of originally Carroll but now Heard County, GA, containing 88 acres, more or less, of lot number 91 and described as follows: bounded on the north by lands of T.W. Goodson; on the east by lands of L.S. Hunter; on the south by lands of R.W. O'Neal and on the west by lands of Mrs. C.R. Fincher. Said land ws deeded to Mrs. E.M. Middlebrooks by R.H. Mooney. In pursuance of a bond for title made by Mrs. E.M. Middlebrooks to the said M.S. Mooney, the said M.S. Mooney alleging that he has fully met his obligations in said bond. This is to notify: Mrs. J.T. Louise Sledge, Ordinary __ HOME NEWS, GOSSIP Mr. Wesley Cooper spent first of the week with his sister, Mrs. Ralph Read, of Cincinnati. __ Mrs. Grady Dennis received word Sunday of the sudden death of an Uncle, Mr. Will Cooper of Rock Mills, Ala. He was visiting a daughter Mrs. Frank Turner in LaGrange when death occurred. Mr. Cooper was a former Heard countian. __ Mr. Dewey Davis, former Heard countian, was severely beaten, officers advise, on the Franklin - LaGrange highway Friday night. He was carried to his home in Carrollton. We have been unable to get the particulars. __ Heard County send today two more white volunteers to Fort McPherson. They are: James Hewlett Walston and Phillip Glenn Bozeman. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, July 25, 1941 The little town of Grantville, Georgia with its population of 1,500, held the national spotlight, temporarily at least. Last Week Miss Henrietta Hughes Colley, the first girl born into the Colley family in 155 years, since 1786, was married. She became the wife of Dr. Cheney Cleveland Joseph of New Orleans. That was news. In fact, plans for the wedding was first brougght to the attention of the nation by Walter Winchell in a recent radio broadcast. __ Mrs. Lena Cox and T.J. Cox, are now at Camp U-Ma-Rest, having been called from Florida by illness and death of Mrs. Billinghurst, who was buried in LaGrange last week. __ FOR SALE - - 32 caliber rifle, Smith & Wesson pistol, Singer sewing machine, 4 burner oil stove with built in oven, circulating heater. Mrs. H.E. Burdett, Franklin, GA. __ Mr. C.F. Williamson of Miami, Fla., visited the family of his father, Mr. W.F. Williamson of Waresville the past weekend, and was accompanied by his brother Hewlett on a trip to Cincinnati. __ Mrs. Lola Owensby Manry, Atlanta, died in Atlanta on Monday. She was the daughter of Bood Owensby, formerly of this county. Mr. T.E. Owensby and family attended the funeral in Atlanta on Wednesday. __ Mr. J.W. Gentry and family spent the weekend visiting relatives and attending the large family reunion at Austell. they tell it on him that he unconsciously took away with him some of the court house keys and how has to shine shoes for punishment, but we have not yet seen him on the job. __ Mr. Elford Lee is in the Veteran's Hospital No. 48, Atlanta, for treatment. __ Mr. H.I. Daniel and family of Rittman, Ohio, Mrs. H.E. Ragle, of Old Fort, N.C., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. G.E.
