Funeral and interment was at Harmony on Tuesday morning, Lewis & Lipford as directors. Survivors are his widow, one brother and one sister, Mr. Reese Williams and Mrs. Courtney McDowell. _____ Tuesday evening it was our pleasure to join a number of city and county officers and their ladies in a fish supper at the lovely camp of Mr. C.H. Pullen, nestled deep in the rugged gulch of Yellow Dirt Creek in the northern section of Heard County. It is a lovely place and the fish dinners served there simply can't be beat. Mr. and Mrs. Pullen live at the camp and are there to entertain their friends every day. And they and their assistants are kept busy most of the time. The assistants are Charlie Hollingsworth, Miss Helen Fleming, R.J. Grey with Tom Harrell, cook, than whom the art knows none better. __ Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Lipham, Jackson, Miss., with their charming little daughter Dorothy Jean, spent a day in the county among relatives, stopping by enroute from Kentucky mainly to visit Mr. Lipham's mother, Mrs. W.W. Lipham near Texas community. Amos stands right up at the top among the best and most popular hotel managers in all the country. He is assistant manager of the large Roy Heidelburg system of fine hotels, the largest of which is the Heidelburg at Jackson, Miss. It is air conditioned throughout with a large cafeteria which serves hundreds daily. It was our pleasure to visit this fine hotel a few weeks ago. In addition to being assistant manager, Mr. Lipham is manager of the food supplies. The system operates five hotels, three of which are in Baton Rouge, LA and the Pinehurts at Laurel, Miss., recently acquired and partly owned by Mr. Lipham. Mr. Lipham's host of Heard County friends were delighted to see him and we sincerely regretted that in his hurry in passing we had only time to say howdy and goodbye. __ Miss Virginia Paschal, popular Franklin girl and a Heard County teacher for several years, this week authorized the annoucement of her marriage. She and Sergeant W.D. Taylor, Fort Sill, Okla, were joined in wedlock on July 19th at noon at the Methodist parsonage at Cedartown by Rev. Nath Thompson. The couple honeymooned a few days at Chattanooga, when Mrs. Taylor came back to her school duties and Sargeant Taylor returned to his military service. (NOTE: name later corrected to Sargeant W.D. Traylor in subsequent newspaper issue). __ MT. PLEASANT Community News Craman Arnett of Fort McClelland, spent several days with his parents, Jesse and Mrs. Arnett, the past week. __ Bruce Brown and wife Sara Harris Brown, Jesse Harris and wife of Atlanta, spent Sunday with J.T. Harris. __ HOME NEWS, SUGGESTIONS, GOSSIP Mr. and Mrs. P.G. White, Miami Fla., Miss Mabel White, Albany, Mrs. Bryant Fuller and little Miss Bonnie Lane Fuller, Montgomery, Ala., visited their Aunt, Mrs. Hope H. Lane, on Friday last. __ Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Bowman of Toledo, Ohio are visitors this week of Editor and Mrs. McCutchen. It is their first trip to this immediate section of the deep south. Almon. __ Rev. and Mrs. E.J. Osborn and family of Nashville, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Pope of Akron, Ohio and Mr. Eddie Pope of Washington, D.C. have returned home after a two weeks visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Pope. __ Mr. J.H. Parham, Centralhatchee, was this week named by Governor Talmadge as chairman of the state board of barber examiners. __ Mrs. W.D. Ridley and Mr. Ales Ridley have returned from a visit to the former's sister, Mrs. Clyde Foster in Cedartown. __ The many friends of Mrs. A.G. Wortham of Centralhatchee, regret to hear of her critical illness. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, September 12, 1941 R. L. LANCASTER CELEBRATES 79th BIRTHDAY WITH DINNER Mr. R. L. Lancaster celebrated his 79th birthday August 25th at his home near Frolona. At noon hour, a dinner was spread on the large table in the shade of pecan trees in the yard. The decorations used were two large vases containing dahlias, ferns and zinnias at each end of the table and a large cake holding 79 white candles placed in the center. The guest list included a large number of relatives and friends from Atlanta, Palmetto, Newnan, Hogansville, LaGrange and the vivinity of Frolona. __ MT. PLEASANT Community News I.E. Middlebrooks and two sons, Elton and Idus made a business trip down below Columbus Monday last. __ Mrs. Lucrete Cobbie who holds a nice position with the Atlanta Woolen Mills, spent Sunday with her father, W.B. Davis. __ Mrs. Bernard Freeman of LaGrange, spent Sunday with her father, W.B. Davis. __ Mr. B.N. Archer, Ragland, Ala., was the week's guest of his daughter, Mrs. L. Gladney of Centralhatchee. __ RAYMOND AWBREY MARRIES CHARMING KENTUCKY GIRL Franklin friends were somewhat surprized early this week when Mr. Raymond Awbrey, popular groceryman, returned from Kentucky with a charming bride. He was married Monday at Lexington, Kentucky to Miss Mildred Sewell of Campton, KY and the couple left at once for Franklin and will reside temporarily with Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Awbrey, parents of the groom. They are receiving congratulations from every direction. __ HOME NEWS, GOSSIP Mrs. M.L. Whatley died at LaGrange this week. She was formerly a Heard countian and a cousin of Mrs. W.H. Lancaster of Franklin. __ Friends throughout the county deeply sympathize with Rev. Oscar Sheets in the death of his good wife on Monday. She was buried Tuesday at Red Oak Methodist Church. __ Mr. J.H. Kent has been in the hospital seriously ill all the week. Mrs. Kent has spent most of her time with him. He is at the Carrollton Clinic. __ Many Heard county friends received with congratulations a recent report of the marriage of Mr. Henry Kitchens of Waresville and Miss Willie Bowen of Newnan. The wedding was solemnized at Newnan First Methodist Church on August 24th, Rev. J.W. Veach officiating. Mr. Kitchens is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.H.Kitchens of Waresville and is a mmeber of the faculty of Griffin High School. The wedding is described as a most lovely affair. __ MULES FOUND - - Two black mares found at my home on August 12th. All efforts to find the owners have filed. Owner can identify and get the property by paying cost of the keep and this notice. Otherwise, I shall enter estray proceedings. F.D. It was Sergeant Traylor whom she recently married at Cedartown. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, September 19, 1941 Mr. Blake Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. R. Cook of Cooksville, who is now with the U.S. Army in the medical corps, has recently been transferred from Ft. Dix, N.J., to Iceland. His many friends wish him a successful landing. __ On Sunday, Sept 14th, Elias Burgess and family of Enon Grove, held a reunion in honor of his parents, R.M. and Mrs. Burgess of Roopville, which was enjoyed by many from far and near. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.H. McGibboney, Carrollton, spent Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. Virgil Bledsoe. __ Mr. T.S. Cosby, was severely injured a few days ago by an unruly mule, besides other bruises, sustaining a broken collarbone. __ For Sale or Trade - - 25 acre farm one mile north of Simpson, Heard County. Daniel. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, September 26, 1941 GLENN Community News Darnell Bonner of Charleston, S.C. is spending the week here. __ Mrs. Lauton Wilson is spending the week with her mother, Mrs. Moore, in Hogansville. __ A wedding of interest to Centralhatchee and Franklin and to their hosts and friends, occurred Sunday, when Miss Vernon Merrill and Mr. Bonnie Lee were united in wedlock by Ordinary Louise Sledge at her home. The bride is the lovely and intelligent daughter of Mrs. Joe Merrill of Centralhatchee and the groom is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Lee of Franklin. Immediately after the ceremony the couple hied away to Morristown, Tenn., where Mr. Lee is employed by the Hardaway Construction Co. in road changing and paving there. _____ Mr. and Mrs. Watson Noles, Norfolk, VA, and Mrs. D.L. Johnson of Reidville, are spending the week with their mother, Mrs. H.J. Noles. __ Rev. and Mrs. J.C. Adams on Sunday, attended the funeral at Madison of Mr. Jack Cunningham, a favorite cousin of Mrs. Adams. Rev. L.H. Snyder filled the morning appointment at the Methodist church. __ LEGAL NOTICE Georgia, Heard County The return of the appraisers setting apart twelve months supoort to the family of Dan. H. Hopson, deceased, having been filed in my office, al persons concerned are cited to show cause by the 1st Monday in October 1941 why said application for twelve months support should not be granted.
