Gore and children visited the former's sister, Mrs. Lucy Meriwether of Lanett, Ala., Sunday last. __ Pvt. Elgin Nation of Missouri and Mrs. Elgin Nation of Double Springs, Ala., visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. V.M. Nation last week. __ Mr. and Mrs. Bud Noles and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Arrington visited relatives of Simpson last week. __ Mr. and Mrs. Ben Johnson announce the marriage of their daughter Audrey, to Roy Carter of LaGrange. They are making their home in LaGrange where they are both employed. __ Mr. Ben and Dovie Davis of Atlanta visited their father, W.C. Arrington, Sunday last. __ Mr. Howard Gore has purchased a grist mill and put it in at his home place. __ COOLEY'S STORE Community News Milton Caswell spent last week with A.W. Layton and family in Columbia, S.C. __ Bradley Barker and family have bought the M.O. Lester homeplace and recently moved in. __ Mrs. A.W. Layton with her two children, B.A. Layton and Mrs. H.F. Rogers and Miss Alpha Sue Tollerson spent the weekend with her parents, L.J. and Mrs. Tollerson. __ ELERY Community News Mr. G.W. Marker has returned from a visit to his daughter, Mrs. Ben McWhorter and son; Ted Barker and family, Tampa, Fla, and Mrs. Hoke Barker and daughter Jeannette also visited Fla. folks. __ Mr. and Mrs. Leon Marshall attended the funeral of their Aunt, Mrs. Amos Shelnut, of Powder Springs. __ The ladies of Unity community have been sewing for Red Cross, supervised by Miss Rebecca Barker. Ladies who will help out in Red Cross work in Centralhatchee district can get in touch with Miss Barker. __ Enoch Rogers happened to get his foot cut while cutting wood last week but he is doing fine now; he also lost a fine milk cow to pneumonia this week. __ Pvt. James E. Barker has finished his basic training at Kearns, Utah and will now enter school for training as a Radio Mechanic. __ ROCKALO Community News Sorry to hear of the death of Dewey Motes, a boy reared in this community. __ Mr. and Mrs. Paul George have returned from Florida where they have been at work for some time. __ Mary Gwyn Thaxton visited her sick mother the past weekend. __ GLENN Community News Mrs. Emmet Danner and daughter of Columbus have been visiting relatives here the past two weeks. __ Mrs. Kate Birdsong spent last week with her niece, Mrs. G.T. Whitley. __ Lt. and Mrs. Frank Whitley of Houston, Texas announce the arrival of a daughter born in Feb. She has been give the name of Margaret Dunn. P.C. and Mrs. Whitley are grandparents. Wilbur Whitley leaves Tuesday for a defense job in Savannah. __ B.T. Adams and son Ben Oliver of Rome, spent the weekend here. __ HOME NEWS Miss Ruby Veryl Melancon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Melancon of Sorrento, LA, became the bride of Private First Class James R. Burson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Burson of Franklin, GA on Tuesday evening Feb 16th. The ceremony was performed by the groom's Uncle, Mr. G.W. Barker, Sr. Mrs. Burson is a native of Sorrento, LA and received her education at St. Amont High School and is employed with the Bell Telephone Co. in Baton Rouge, LA. She is the sister of Mrs. Septene Traveav, Mrs. Oreal LeBlanc, Mrs. I.J. McDaniel, Miss Drucie and Mr. Cleveland Melancon of Sorrento, Miss Everlyn Melancon of Baton Rouge and Mr. Walter Melancon of La Place, LA. The groom is the brother of Mr. G.A. Burson and Mrs. Paul Kelly of Franklin, GA. He is stationed at Orlando, Fla, where he returned to duty while his bride resumed her work in Baton Rouge. __ Sgt. Nick A. Hopson has completed Air Corps training; he is now aerial gunner engineer in the air forces. __ Mrs. Wallace Bonner has returned to Barnesville after spending several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Adams, while her mother was recovering from an operation. __ Warrant Officer Powers Goodson, Camp Stewart, spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Eva.
