Merrill. ___ Rufus McWhorter and family spent Saturday night with relatives in Hogansville. __ Alex Thompson's children spent last weekend with him. __ Mrs. Jim Fringer is spending a few days with her huband in a camp near Augusta. __ Mrs. Russell Smith and son Richard and Miss Vesta Jackson of Hogansville are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jackson. __ We are glad to report that Mrs. Emily Shelnutt is much improved and has returned home after having spent several days in a hospital in LaGrange. __ Rabun Hardy of the U.S. Navy, visited friends in this community on Saturday. __ Mrs. Ernest Roberts, who has spent several days in an Atlanta hospital, has returned to her home. ___ LOCAL NEWS Mrs. Ralph Burdett of Anniston, Alabama was the guest of relatives here this weekend. __ Mr. and Mrs. Joe Askew of Carrollton spent Tuesday with Mrs. Angie Crockett. ___ CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank our many friends and relatives for their kindness and sympathy in the death of our dear husband and father. Gosdin, of Franklin, Georgia, has just completed his basic training at the Merced Army Flying School. Cadet Gosdin was a student at West Georgia College before his acceptance as an aviation cadet. He will go to Douglas, Arizona for his advanced instruction. At the completion of his course he will receive his "wings" and will join Uncle Sam's Legions in the skies. Loyd Cook who left for the army a few weeks ago is now in Virginia. __ Wayne Cook is spending the weekend with his grandmother, Mrs. S.A. Futral. __ N.V. Awbrey is home for a few days from the Navy. __ Sgt. Jesse C. Cook is visiting his mother, Mrs. J.C. Cook. __ Hubert Mathews has been inducted in the Navy and is leaving soon. __ ROCKALO Community News On last Tuesday, the death angel came to Mr. Charlie Bryan's home and took away his loving companion and mother from the children. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was laid to rest at Macedonia Church. The family has our sympathy. She left behind three children, one girl married to Alvin Vaughn, and two boys at home to care for dad. ____ CORINTH Community News Mrs. J.S. McIntosh. ___ Mrs. G.W. Barker spent Monday with her daughter, Mrs. H.C. Kennerly, who is ill. ___ Mrs. Fannie Maude Wright and children are visiting her parents while her husband has gone to see his brother who is seriously ill in an Army hospital in Texas. ____ LOCAL NEWS Miss Oleta Harry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Harry of Glenn community, became the bride of Sgt. Stanley Nierodzik of New York City, at a ceremony solemnized at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Cook Sr. of Texas community in Georgia. Rev. Olin Sheppard read the marriage ceremony at 5 o'clock. The bride wore black crepe with pink accessories. Miss Sara Cook, aunt of the bride, was matron of honor. James Harry, brother of the bride, acted as best man for the bridegroom. PLEASANT Community News Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Freeman and son Joseph of LaGrange, spent Saturday night with the latter's father, Mr. Bert Davis. __ Mrs. Louise (Nelms) Daniel with her little daughter Mary Ann, is spending this week with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Hal Shirley over the river. __ We are sorry to say that Mrs. J.T.
