PLEASANT Community News Joseph Freeman of LaGrange, spent last week with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Idus Middlebrooks. __ Mr. B.J. Parker Sr. is still growing weaker in body and mind. __ Pleas Reid, a colored preacher, formerly of Heard County but now of Carroll County, has six sons in the armed services, ages from twenty to thirty-five. __ ROCKALO Community News Benson McClain is at home from service. He is at the bedside of his grandmother who is seriusly ill at the home of his mother. __ Louise Shelnutt and son Berry Roger, her sister Betty Dowd, have returned to their home in Louisiana. Billy Shelnutt returned with them. __ MARRIED - - Sgt. Dan Chilton Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Taylor of Franklin, GA, to Lillian Hazel Pollard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Pollard of Rosedale Gardens, Plymouth,Mich. The marriage took place in Greenville, South Carolina Sunday evening June 5th at the Bruncombe Street Methodist Church. ___ Fifty-four Georgia women have enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, the oldest branch of the service and the last to open its ranks to the female sex. __ LOCAL NEWS, GOSSIP Pfc. Kenneth Awbrey is at home on furlough this week with his mother, Mrs. Beulah Awbrey. He is stationed at Gadsden. __ Mr. and Mrs. Stanton Adams are the proud parents of a daughter. She was given the name of Betty Gilliland. ___ Miss Roslyn Royston of Roanoke, Ala., is visiting her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. J.L. Taylor. __ Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Lancaster are spending this week with their children in Villa Rica and Atlanta. __ Mrs. C.T. Simonton, Pvt. Merlin Simonton, and little Miss Carolyn Simonton are spending a few days this week with Dr. and Mrs. Fred Simonton at Chickamauga. ___ Many people are getting delayed birth certificates according to the ordinary's office. ___ Mr. Lane Daniel returned to Canton, Ohio after a visit this week with his mother, Mrs. H.D. Daniel. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, July 16, 1943 FROLONA Community News Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Traylor and children Rena and Patsy of Arnco, visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Traylor last weekend. ___ Mr. and Mrs. V.M. Nation had as their guest on Sunday last, Pvt. Jasper Nation of Atlanta, and Sgt. Hulet Nation of Camp Wheeler , Mr. and Mrs. Will Burgess and Mr. Noles and children. ___ Mr. A.J. Smith and daughter Mrs. Charles Paschal, visited Miss Edna Smith of Cedartown Sunday last. __ HOME NEWS, SUGGESTIONS, GOSSIP Judge Leon Hood, former Heard countian and for many years popular citizen and lawyer of Carrollton, died suddenly the past week while attending court in Atlanta. ___ DIED - - Wesley Kirkland, 87, spending most of his life in Heard county, died the past week and was buried at Salem, having been a member of the church for 14 years. He is survived by his widow and 13 children and numbers of grandchildren and great grandchildren. ___ Mr. Frank H. Stephens of San Juancinto, Honduras, is at home for a few weeks to visit his aged mother, Mrs. Minor Stephens, who is quite feeble. He expects to rejoin his family in August. He came by plane to Miami, making a short while the trip that usually requires weeks by boat. ___ Mr. and Mrs. William Gentry with their twins from Phil Campbell, Ala, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Gentry at their country home at Welcome. __ Mr. W.J. Arnett had two fine young mules killed by lightning Wednesday night of last week when the barn was struck. ___ Mr. H.J. Mickle left Monday for a two weeks vacation in Miami, Fla., with Mrs. Mickle, who has spent the summer there, and will return home with Mr. Mickle. Miss Louise MIckle is spending time with Mr. and Mrs. Jim T. Mickle at Texas. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, July 23, 1943 IN MEMORIAM of J.T. Walls, secretary. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Thursday, July 30, 1943 FORMER HEARD COUNTIAN DIES IN TEXAS STATE Mrs. W.A. Miller, a native and former resident of Heard County, died at her home in Memphis, Tex., Sunday July 11th and was buried at Memphis the next day at an impressive funeral. She was the former Miss Mamie Moore and had lived in Texas since 1905. ___ GLENN Community News Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Winn and Mrs. Eley Cox of LaGrange spent Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Whatley. Wilbur Whatley returned to Savannah Sunday morning after spending the week here. __ Mrs. Ruby Whitley spent the weekend in Columbus with Sergeant and Mrs. McClure. __ James Wilson of Macon visited homefolks on Sunday. __ HOME NEWS, GOSSIP Mr. F.L. Butler of Americus spent a few days this week with his sister, Mrs. J.L. Daniel. __ Pfc. J.L. Heard of Riverside, Calif., is spending a furlough with his wife in Hogansville and with relatives and friends here. __ Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Etchison of Fairfax, Ala., spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. W.M.
